I took my boat licence in France and had a few days ruined because I’d gone to the assistance of a stranded boat. We were on our way to St Tropez, loaded up with cool boxes, picnic, etc, and a boat had broken down. We had to come alongside, hitch up two ropes and take him to the nearest suitable port, St Raphael.

It took over two hours and ruined the day but we had no choice …

… ‘Under international maritime law, you are legally obligated to help any person or vessel in peril, provided you can do so without endangering your own vessel, crew, or passengers.’

People who say we should ignore people in the Channel clearly know nothing about maritime law or how busy that shipping lane is. The RNLI have no choice in who to help or how.
Yeah good post. Ignorance of the highest order but not surprising and the disciples blindly follow. They aren’t sheep though oh no no.

I have a very good mate who is active in the RNLI and I can’t speak highly enough of him or his colleagues. Criticising people who risk their lives to save others at sea is beyond contempt.

We landed in Australia in November 2007. Boxing Day that year was 44 degrees. Never experienced heat like it. We were stuck in a rental apartment with an aircon system woefully inadequate for what we wanted. Character building is all I’ll say
