As I've mentioned previously I have a magnificent pheasant who I feed by hand.

That was nice enough but now he's started bringing his girlfriend who eats nuts out of the bird feeder.

Either this is actually happening or I'm finally losing my mind.

I used to put nuts out and kept finding the feeder on the ground with the nuts scattered everywhere. Couldn't understand how it kept falling off.

Then I was home one day and noticed a squirrel nonchalantly stroll along the top of the fence, unhook the feeder and drop it on the ground!

I stopped putting nuts out after squirrels broke into my loft and were hiding the nuts in my loft insulation.

I'm thinking about digging a pond. I saw a picture of one with a pebble beach which was good for birds and insects to drink and bathe in. I've got a hanging plate type dish for the birds to drink from and a blue tit keeps coming and having a bath in it :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I bought one of these and it's in flower now:

It's insane how many bees are busy working on it. Various types of bee and they're all flitting about with pollen stuffed pockets! We call it the buzzy bush now :emoticon-0102-bigsm
I have a bit of a pebble beach too. Everything from Wren to crows has a paddle.

She doesn’t look very happy with that squirrel pinching her grub. <laugh>

I considered giving this its own thread but I’m not that bitter. :emoticon-0181-fubar
This is the bloke that said I wasn’t good enough to be a sergeant in the force he’s now in charge of. Well, stick it up your arse Ivan, I’ve been a sergeant over here now for 11 years….they recognise talent when they see it here <devil>

How is he still in a job?
Contempt of court is a 2 year jail sentence apparently.

Well, the previous Chief Constable (after I left for pastures new) is currently going through court for fabricating his military service….Yes, of course they let 15 year old lads fight in the Falklands conflict, and to get the GSM (NI) you had to spend 28 continuous days in the province, I know because I’ve got one that I earned and you weren’t a Commander in the Royal Navy were you Nick, you were an Able Seaman….so it probably wouldn’t look good if his successor was sent to chokey would it <laugh>

Its sorta sad really pheasants were bred for shooting and many are hand reared for the purpose and let loose.many survive but dont have fear of humans!Personally im a meat eater so I have no problem with killing animals for food but I would like to see a world where animals are not killed for sport. Smug that looks like a wonderful place to live. The things I miss from living in the countryside are the black darkness of the night (no street lights) ,the swallows in spring and the pre roosting sounds of a pheasant at dusk.

Yes it’s absolutely beautiful here and we’re on a long private road that means we only see two or three cars a day, and all kinds of wildlife shows up.

There’s a deep ravine alongside, with a burn running through it, and a shooting estate on the other bank. How this one pheasant has worked out that my garden is the safest place I’ve no idea, but he’s there two or three times a day pecking on the window for his meals.

Through the day various birds, from a woodpecker to a robin, arrive at particular times as if they’re on a rota …

… great to watch and quite humbling.

I don’t think he could fly all the way down here so I guess I’ve got his brother <laugh>

There's wild pheasants around here. I often see them on the little roads through the farms. Occasionally they've been in the street and once one had a lovely sunbathe on my front lawn :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Just been to see a lass who’s mam runs the hedgehog rescue society, she reckons if it’s a pregnant hedgehog or one feeding they come out during the day to top up.
I’ve got a box in the garden with one in so I’m assuming it’s her <ok>
