Quite agree, and doubling the population will take far less time than 48 years.
Big and bold decisions are required by heads of government worldwide, but l am not holding my breath.
Every answer involves a radical change to our way of life. Capitalism relies on young people coming through into the work force and being cheap labour. Our pension system is such a disaster that it requires younger people to pay into the pot for them to be able to afford to look after the older people now. Lower birth-rates are already beginning to happen in most first world countries which will threaten their economies. Countries will be desperate for skilled immigrants in 50 years.
Higher life expectancy is the more prevalent problem. The retirement age needs to be increased significantly for it to even have a chance of being sustainable. I'm in my late 30's and I don't believe the state pension will be around by the time I get to that age (or it'll be for those over the age of 75).
When the govt says retirement age goes up because of higher life expectancy, there is an argument that it should come down because they also say that death from obesity and its health related problems is rising and will ultimately reduce that life expectancy average

Disgraceful these rises for people on the pension and no way to earn money
I have just read the article, we can all relax it's only £2000 per year
I'm guessing £2k a year rather than £2k a month, but it's still yet another rise in bills. Council funding is already stripped to the bone so it's not a surprise that they have to raise taxes to do this.
I actually have no problem with paying more taxes, but we need more transparency on where our money goes. We appear to get less services than ever and pay more for them. I can face hard truths and tough choices, but everyone advocating that is still lying to us.

Is that not what the triple lock is for? Or are you finding that things are rising so frequently that the pension is not rising quickly enough?
That's not much at all to be expected to survive on to be fair. I always thought it was around £185 though that's still not great if you have no other income or savings.
I'm even more confused about the triple lock now though, as your figures have gone up below the minimum.
In the last few years pensions have risen by 2.5% Flash, so Vince's figures are about right.
Vince is in the same position as I am and can't get the full state pension of £185 pw because we opted out of SERPS
That’s correct however I never new I had opted out until 2015 when I was told by my union
