Pissie. It is plainly obvious that The Fail was the conduit chosen by The Chavs and Modrics' agent to try and engineer a transfer on terms advantageous to both. I have STILL not heard the alleged words "I want to go to Chelsea" from Modrics' own mouth, either. If, and until, I do. I will continue to support the theory that this is nothing more than a crude conspiracy between the above mentioned parties.

The source of Modric's quotes, are Modric himself, as reported in the Guardian, as well as several other newspapers.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/17/luka-modric-tottenham-chelsea

I would say that is a pretty comprehensive and unequivocal statement of his intentions. It stretches credulity to breaking point to suggest that this is all 'made up' or given the comprehensive nature of the statement, that any of this has been 'extracted with the intent to misrepresent the facts'.

If it isn't an accurate representation of what Modric said, then why hasn't he simply dismissed the story as untrue? If it is 'made up', why then has Harry Redknapp confirmed it by commenting on his desired move?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/19/luka-modric-tottenham-chelsea-redknapp

Given that my initial post was to comment on the fact that Modric himself then, is at least partly responsible for the media frenzy which currently surrounds his potential transfer, I think it is a valid and relevant point.

For the sake of absolute accuracy then I would agree with that Ensil that - "I would like to join chelsea" still means that he would like to join Chelsea.

The fact is that Modric has not, without a shadow of a doubt, come out and said anything either way

We have only alleged quotes from a media that loves Chelsea and Man Utd

Ensil - do you really think that a slight mistake in reporting his quote actually changes the meaning of what he said?

What do you think that means?

The fact that all you've got left to cling to in trying to 'win an argument' is the difference between 'want' and 'would like' when in fact they both express the the same meaning, smacks of desperation.

<laugh> So you believe that he said 'I would like to go to Chelsea' because he wanted to go to the Flower Show? <laugh>

Seriously Ensil - you are making a fool of yourself.

If he wants to play in the cl every year then he would have to look at joining Barca to virtually do that

    He was going shopping, Piskie.
    Obvious, really! <laugh>

Sadly, it's slightly more believable than your suggestion that Sagna doesn't really know what Fabregas would like to do and that the Spaniard's quotes aren't in any way self-serving.

So, given that it was in the context of him talking about a potential transfer to Chelsea FC what do you think he meant when he said - 'I would like to go to Chelsea' ?

    Flower show was it? <laugh>

Ensil - all that you have proved is that you will clutch at the slipperiest straw, even if it makes you look like an utter fool, in order to try (and fail) to save face. <laugh>

Perhaps you could explain the difference in meaning between 'would like' and 'want' ?

    Flower Show <laugh>

    @ PNP

I'm sure Modric loves shopping in Chelsea, maybe not as much as he enjoys wanting 'to go' to the Flower show maybe? <laugh>

Perhaps you could explain the difference between, "I can say it's true that Cesc wants to go to Barca. Fabregas wants to return to his country of birth, to his city, where his family are; he wants to play for one of the best teams in the world, Barcelona, and that's understandable", and, "I would like to go to Chelsea"?
Why do you believe one and not the other, Piskie?

why the debate? there is no debate..at the end of the day the fact is that Modric is not going to chelsea ..therefore logic suggests that the arsenal fan does not need to bother worrying about what goes at tottenham<ok>

plus...really you can smack a 80 million pric on Fartygas if you want but we all know that he DOES want to leave...you can tell us Modders said this and that etc etc ra ra ra...but the fact remains....he wants out<ok> and the strong possibilty remains..he will have out<ok>

With Modders its been a scenario instigated due to the fact that we failed to qualify for the CL...its something that can be eradicated quite easily if Spurs step it up..to a level which they easily can.....it's not as though he wants to join a club that has actually wont the CL now have they?

so this can be easily eradicated..however for Fartygas...30 zagilion years of constantly qualifying for the CL...and flirting in the top 3 years in year out...and he still wants out<ok>

i know which one id be worried about out of the 2<ok>

I don't believe one and not the other. I think Fabregas does want to go back to his homeland one day, but the last thing he said was

Is that a bouquet of flowers I see? Maybe Ensil was right about him saying 'I want to go to Chelsea' only to go to the Flower show after all ? <laugh>

And you don't think that Fabregas is making self-serving statements, Piskie?
Sagna clearly indicated that Fabregas wanted to move this summer, not at some point in the future.
    Everybody already knew that.

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time believing that you're that naive.

I lived in America for 4 years, some time ago. Whilst living in New York, I accepted an invitation to take the Mensa exam, which I passed and became a member. The exam itself requires you to think clearly and logically, but within a time frame. Most reasonably intelligent people could eventually answer most of the questions - but doing it within the time frame is another matter. Now I'm much older. I'm not so sure I could pass it again. I attended only one Mensa gathering in N.Y. I met some of the weirdest, and some of the most boring, people on the face of the planet - never went again!

Just curious, were most of them Spuds?

The fact is, Fabregas knows that, if AFC do not sell him to Barca, that he'll walk away on a free transfer at the end of his contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he's already promised that to Barca behind the scenes. It would explain why Barca keep taking the piss with the bids they put in.

No I don't believe that Fabregas is making self serving statements. He is a model professional and when he says that he is happy at Arsenal and wants to win trophies with us, I believe him. I think it's clear that he wants to return to Barcelona one day, but maybe it's only to visit the Basilica though? <laugh>
