Yes, Sagna did say that Fabregas wants to return to Spain as it's his homeland. But Fabregas himself came out with something quite different concerning his immediate future.

Regarding the OP, my original point however was that if a player himself comes out and says he wants to leave, then you can't simply blame the journalists for making stories up.

Ensil - Could you please give an example of where I have made a quote up?

Anyway - I assume you mean the quote attributed to him on the 14th where he also said

About Wenger; "He is the boss, the one who makes the decisions - you should ask him, but I was injured at the end of the season and I haven't seen him for about six weeks." (Excellent man management skills from Wenger)

Fabregas won the 2010 World Cup with Spain, but his only major honour with the Gunners came in 2005, with victory in the FA Cup - Arsenal's last trophy.

"A player who is not frustrated at not winning titles is either lying to himself or lacks ambition, but there is a good team and a good manager and one of the most faithful fanbases in Europe. With those I believe we can make progress and one day win an important trophy."

So Fabregas, who hasn't seen his manager for 6 weeks, is happy at Arsenal despite being frustrated by not winning anything for 6 seasons and believes that because of the 'faithful fanbase' he might win a trophy.

Yeah, right.

Fabregas - frustrated and happy <laugh>

Does anyone else think that the use of 'please' twice in the same sentence is unnecessary?

So do you still doubt the authenticity of Fabregas' quotes?

Your take on it, whilst fanciful - is not what Fabregas said.

The last we heard from Modric however was him saying 'I want to go to Chelsea'

Are you still claiming that I have made this up?

Yes, Sagna did say that Fabregas wants to return to Spain as it's his homeland. But Fabregas himself came out with something quite different concerning his immediate future.

Who do you think is the more reliable source: the player with nothing to lose or the player who could alienate the fans at a club that he ends up staying at?

I would say the player who is directly concerned would be the one to listen to - Straight from the horse's mouth may be a phrase you're familiar with? When pressed about a potential Barca move, Fabregas said
"I am very happy where I am. Anything else would be speculation that is untrue."

And straight from the horse's mouth of Modric came the statement -
'I want to go to Chelsea'

Or like Ensil, are you claiming that I have made this up?

You can say what you want on the internet with anonymity as a mask. Really it has little relevence discussing your IQ on here, your abillity to articulate your opinion and comprehend that of others is a far better barometer of a users intelligence and we may find it undermines their claims of a higher score...which could be a bit embarrassing if anyone cared but fortunately for them, no one does. In anycase, as this is a football site where we discuss our team's latest news, we only require a minimal level of intelligence or indeed grasp of the English language to participate(See: Michigan).

If anyone was wondering, I have never taken an IQ test but I do have a penis that can fully satisfy my three beautiful wives at once. I win.

You're ridiculously naive if you believe that a player is more likely to be honest than somebody with no vested interest in any proposed transfer.
Why would Sagna make up Fabregas' desire to return to Barca?

Oh and Modric is not going anywhere. There is nothing in the Metro article to suggest that has changed.

I don't think he has made it up. (as Ensil claims I have about Modric, but still cannot provide any evidence of any 'made up' quotes from me)

I think it's clear that Fabregas wants to return to Barcelona one day, but the point is that his immediate future is with Arsenal. He has said that he is happy and wants to win trophies with us. (despite Ensil's doubt about the authenticity of his quotes) He also said that any decision about his future would be up to the manager and Wenger has no plans to sell him. So he is and will remain an Arsenal player for now. Other players can speculate on his future, but it's not adding anything that we don't already know.

As much as you want to talk about Fabregas though, (even given that he has been quite clear with his statement) my original point however was about Modric. He was quoted as saying
'I want to go to Chelsea'
So rather than lambast the journalists, I suggested that perhaps the player has added fuel to the fire about the potential transfer.

So why do you continue to avoid this point?

Don't you think that it's far more likely that Fabregas actually does want to go to Barca now, as Sagna has suggested and that the Spanish midfielder just has enough common sense to play down those desires publicly, so that he doesn't alienate the Arsenal fans if a move doesn't happen, Piskie?

Modric was quoted as saying that he wanted to go to Chelsea, if the deal was right for both him and Tottenham.
It's not, so it doesn't appear that he is going, at the moment.
The installation of Villas-Boas at Stamford Bridge may have seen the club's transfer strategy change, too.

Barca do still appear to want Fabregas, though.
Perhaps some kind of player exchange could take part, as Wenger was reportedly interested in Afellay before he joined them?

Pissie. Why are you STILL banging on about Modric??? Is it not plainly obvious, even to a below average Wum like you, that, for the time being, at least, Modric is going nowhere. As has been pointed out numerous times, there is no way Levy could sell him now, after the statement that he made, without losing every ounce of credibility. And, please don't tell us that if we fail to qualify for the CL next year, he will leave then - I think most of us have worked that one out.
So, could we change the record now, please. I'm afraid this one is starting to bore me.

I think most Gooners would accept that Fabregas is likely to go to Barca one day, so your suggestion of a player swap is a potential scenario. We need a CB and a DM, so if Barca can match our valuation of Fabregas which is around the £60m mark, then maybe we could do business. Mascherano and Pique plus cash could tempt us I suppose.

Ensil - My 'take' is as accurate as any other journalist's 'take' - it's NOT what was said but more a case how what WAS said is reported. It's called journalism <doh>

Except that it wasn't a journalist's 'take' - it was words spoken directly by Fabregas himself.

I'm still waiting for evidence of my 'made up' quotes too Ensil - or do you admit that you made that up? <laugh>

Pissie. Why are you STILL banging on about Modric??? Is it not plainly obvious, even to a below average Wum like you, that, for the time being, at least, Modric is going nowhere.

It's not wumming and the only reason I have felt it right to continue to mention Modric is because nobody has been able to answer my original point about the player being responsible for the transfer speculation and it not being solely the blame of journalists. Instead people wanted to avoid the point and talk about Fabregas instead, perhaps you should direct your frustration towards them for dragging it out?

So, can any of you actually give me a straight answer to my initial point?

What makes me laugh about Gooners is that they cannot, to a man, take off those damned rose-tinted spectacles.

Fabregas is happy at The New Library, is he? Okay, let Whinger test that little theory by telling him he can choose between (a) a new contract making him the best ever paid player at AFC, or (b) a transfer to Barcelona for £27 million.

Which do you think he would take?

Exactly. Now jog on!
