Class signing for you boys, I'm unconvinced by Fletcher (though trust O'Neills judgement a tad more than my own!) but AJ with a run of games in the team is a top class player. When he was at Boro he was fantastic in the Championship, then City signed him and he looked great for them but seemed to fall behind some of the competition (with players like David Silva there's no shame in that). He'd get into every team outside the top 4 I'd say and i obviously include Newcastle in that - although its not a position i think we needed to strengthen so not too fussed we didn't get him - the fact we're comparing him to Ben Arfa shows how highly we rate him as Arfa is the most naturally skillfull player we've had in donkeys years.

Nobody disputing Ben Arfas talent bonny lad, the thing is for pure pace (which you agreed with ) and whipping the ball in AJ is better.
I would actually put up Sess as our challenger to Ben A.

To be fair HBA suits our system better and AJ suits your system better. Now that you have Fletcher and Saha who are both good in the air, you're going to be all about getting the ball wide and whipping decent crosses in and rightly so with the pace of AJ & McClean. We play slightly differently, we get it wide but then try and play one-two's in and around the box.

Cabaye and Sess will be the two players that play the free role this year. Again both great players, can only be good for both teams that we have the above named players (and more) on our team sheets. Both clubs heading in the right direction but taking slightly different paths in terms of recruitment to get there (you're buying proven british players at a slight premium where as we pay slightly under market value but take a greater risk on whether the player will be a success or not).

Well I can honestly say I was shouting for us to go for Ba from the start, then there was a rumour we were after him then you buggers got him I was totally pissed off.

Series of good points there mate. Can't disagree with any of them.
Not many clubs will relish their visits to the North East this season. Long may it continue.

A would love to see us and mags battling it out for honours rather than squabbling over who were top dogs or who gets bigger crowds, its patetic really.

<ok>! Couldn't agree more, also think that this "top dog" thing undermines our derby/rivalry to other teams etc. If we were battling for silverware our derby would soon be recognised as one of the fiercest in europe (or is that my mag delusion kicking in again <whistle>).

Man Utd and Liverpool argue over titles and european cups not 8th and 10th place finishes.:emoticon-0106-cryin

Not sure if you're aware but we actually finished 5th last year ...

All jokes aside I'm looking forward to this season more than I have done for past seasons, both teams are going to be good, top half teams and I fancy both of us to have a good go at the cups.
