For Southampton these days is Guly Do Prado. He is the most unpredictable player I can remember us having for ages. I remember Fabrice being a bit like that before he became so consistent but not too many others. No idea what he's going to do next (partly because he doesn't I imagine) but he is crucial for us for exactly that this reason. He has some flair and when combined with his unpredictability he really can offer us another dimension.

So often I find myself thinking "Guly's done nothing today of any merit...except score and provide an assist" which sums him up IMO. With a player like him you have to accept the occasional crap/inconceivable attempted pass that he serves up because it is these moments of bizarreness that render his good touches/moments so effective! I for one have grown to love him!
 
oh he annoys me with his inconsistency!

the typical guly game is as follows: Give the ball away, Give the ball away, Wont run, Wont jump, Score with a piece of Brazilian Magic
 
Unlike some, I can understand why people don't like Guly - but that still doesn't mean that they're right!

Guly's a top player (certainly at this level any way) who just adds that little bit of quality. His goals and assists tallies alone should make him undroppable at present.
 
He was completely ****e against us.

Having said that i've seen him on the telebox and he's been outstanding.

We used to have a player, Dany N'Guessan, who could probably be playing in Europe if he was consistent. Trouble is he'll have a stormer then have 5/6 games where he did **** all!

We had N'Guessan off you last season. Guly is not just in another league to him, he's on another planet.
 
and N'Guessan was one of the worst players I seen for us, at least Guly has some brilliant flashes

He has one of the best work rates in the team, if you can't see that then I suggest you look a little harder
 
He does have a good work rate WHEN HE CAN BE BOTHERED. Last night, there was a cross from either lallana or harding that was almost put on his head. he didnt jumped and got sandwiched by two hull players. I focussed on him for the next 10 mins and he didnt break into a jog, then was substituted. If he was injured, fair enough, but then adkins should get stick for keeping him on for so long. What I think is more likely is that he was sulking, adkins said something about hard work beating talent.
Walking around for 10 mins is inexcusable at any level of football. Rant over, we won!

In most games yes, I'd agree. Last night not so. He did a bit of work chasing across the midfield not long after he scored.

He is an important cog and we shouldn't be slagging him off; last night was not his finest hour though.
 
Took the 10 year old to her first ever football match last night, and Guly was her favourite player. But only because he had the shiniest boots! :-D

She knows almost nothing about football (even asked if players are allowed to move with the ball lol think she has only played netball :p) but even she mentioned that he didnt run about as much as the others.

Its a shame he has games like that, beacause I know he can be amazing closing down defenders, winning the ball, when he wants to.
 
I love Guly and want him in the team but that doesn't mean we can't criticise certain aspects of his game,my biggest criticism of him is his first touch at times,for a Brazilian it's not great but like i said there are far more positives than negatives to his game and that's why i love him.
 
It is one of the most frustrating experiences watching him play. His first touch can be appalling. He runs aimlessly into opposition players when he has a let out, miscues the telling pass though their back four, meanders in and out of the game&#8230; the list seems endless. Then, is a flash he bursts into life and scores a goal, or lovely side step and threaded through pass and its an brilliant assist.

I cannot image what Adkins goes through before the kick-off. He has some much to consider but I bet a fair amount of time he wonders what is Guly going to be like today!

When Guly is on form - it&#8217;s a joy to watch and he is a genuine game breaker. A lot of the time he is okay. However, there are times I do wonder how he got into professional football. I have watched football for over 45 years - I really don't know what to make of him! What I have seen and this is a big plus point; is the genuine regard his fellow players have for him; in particular Lambert. That is so important for team morale, this aspect of him should not be overlooked.

He really, really doesn't. Generally speaking (e.g. not last night), his work rate is excellent. Is often superb at tracking back and helping out defensively.

(PS. Is there any need to call OTB that, just because you disagree with his opinion?)
 
Guly is a confidence player IMO. He works his socks off after a good win in which he contributed but after a "low" (eg Bristol City), he goes back into his shell again. I think he will improve again as we keep winning:emoticon-0105-wink:

I think he has a good work rate and against Brighton was the difference for me. I do remember him running almost the length of the field to pressure the ball.
I missed last nights game due to work so cant comment on last nights performance.
However given they are monitored to the extreme I think Nigel would be aware if he wasnt pulling his weight.
I love watching Guly personally. Reading away was a classic where he wasnt great but made the goal for Steve with a superp flick. He can be the difference in games for sure. I think on occasions though away from home we should rest him and play 4-5-1. We seem to be losing midfield battles away from home recently. Bristol we did for sure.
