Anyway what we need is a monster of a CB Some of us called this before a ball was kicked in anger this season Not a loanee from a club with a big name but someone who will pull it all together at the back. I don’t think Romero is that man…he lacks the discipline. In fact we need someone who will improve Romero’s game too. We need that CB if we don’t strengthen in this area then next season over the length of 9 months will unravel itself to be a similar ****show if not worse, than this season.
Some of it is fair, some of it doesn't properly analyse certain situations. The managerial count for instance is probably pretty average when you span it over 22 years. If you take Utd and Arsenal out via their years with Fergie and Wenger then I think most clubs generally get through a manager every two seasons as a rough average which is what we've done with 11 full time managers in those 22 years under ENIC. The article in fairness does mention that some of the players asked for by certain managers probably weren't realistic targets so fair play for that. The Bale money was largely wasted but Eriksen wasn't the only success. Lamela proved a useful player outside of his injuries and we almost doubled our money on Chadli - who was sold too early for my liking, was a good player. Then with AVB wanting Willian, he would've gotten him but for Chelsea poaching him at the last minute. The guy was at Spurs Lodge at the time almost ready to sign. They done to us what we've done to West Ham and Everton with Gudjohnsen and Danjuma respectively. In the Mane situation, the article doesn't mention that Mane wanted to be the highest paid player at the club at a time where we had players such as Lloris, Vertonghen and Kane. Whilst he turned out a fantastic player at Liverpool, we would've likely seen many people (and maybe players?) scratching their heads at paying a player from Southampton more than established stars at the club. The stuff with Jose and Kim is also completely incorrect, Jose himself was actually wrong. As he says we had the chance to sign him for £3m but Jose was already sacked by Spurs when Fener signed Kim for £3m the following summer. There are of course many failings, the Grealish debacle especially and the failure to pay the bit extra for Moutinho are two bits that really irk me with the club and whilst the article touches on some truths, it also bends certain truths to suit an agenda, which I suppose is understandable because many fans are indeed peeved at ENIC at the moment, myself included.
If you believe that coaches should choose players it makes some sense. But I don't think that's a wise policy. And I doubt any of the coaches are revealing the other players they asked for and didn't get who have been absolute flops since.
I agree. Despite our poor record in expensive signings, going for two or three big signings will work better than 5 or 6 mid range ones.
So would I but that is with hindsight, at least on Bentacur. But if we are going to progress we need to sign players at the next level and we generally won't get those for under £60m unless we are very lucky. Most £30m centre backs won't actually be better than Sanchez and Dier but a £60m one probably will be.
Bentancur came with very solid pedigree where he won multiple league titles with both Juve and Boca. Even on his signing many were surprised at how little we paid. Richarlison came with a reputation of being the league’s biggest diver who’d spent two of his five seasons in England batting relegation, as a forward he'd never hit over 13 league goals. Spending what we did on him was stupidity, even if we did need a fourth forward. Improving on Dier and Sanchez would cost no more than £20m each. The latter especially is an absolutely horrific footballer.
It is baffling that Sanchez is still ahead of Tanganga in the pecking order. I mean, it's also baffling that he's ahead of anyone sitting in the stands too, but they're not registered to play. Tanganga is.
Tanganga's stagnation would be a reasonable explanation for it...if not for the fact that Sanchez has stagnated just as badly It also has to be said their stagnation has caused them to drop off in the exact same way. For example, while Sanchez's first touch was always suspect, he was a lot like Kyle Walker in that his pace and strength allowed him to correct his own mistakes - but this season he seems to be moving in slow motion at times, like he's misplaced his boots for those of a 19th century diving suit Similar can be said of Tanganga, who looked leggy when he played and made almost identical errors that Sanchez did, and neither of those can be explained by simple lack of playing time because both of them moved like they were coming back from longterm injuries
I think they've both had their confidence destroyed by being on the bench all the time. Sanchez played ok when he had a run in the team but looks incredibly nervous when he makes a one off appearance. Nothing much we can do about that other than sell him.
Even last season Sanchez wasn't a jogging dumpster fire, as when he had a few short runs in the team during our run-in he did a decent job Tanganga was pretty ropey last season as well, which does beg the question why we didn't sanction a loan for him at some point (although that can likely be answered with our HG quotas being lacking as they have been for about six years at this point)
Agreed, players can get a little Rusty if they are substitutes on a regular basis. Sanchez is a good defender but he’s one that needs to play regularly to find his groove.
I was with you until that point. He is so, so far removed from a good defender it is shocking. Awful first touch, nervous as hell in possession, easily dragged out of position, weak in the air and piss poor anticipation that his natural pace does paper over but only to a point. His pace, work rate and that he doesn't really go to ground unless as a last resort (see Aurier or Romero for examples of defenders who go to ground as a first resort). Those are his only real positive attributes. He was made to look good alongside Jan and Toby. Alongside our Anglo-Portuguese carthorse he looks like exactly what he is: a player who had one impressive season in a vastly inferior league who hasn't improved one iota in 6 years.
we’ve got a player who’s been here all his life in Kane(came through the ranks…very very lucky Spurs) We’ve had Son for 8 years We’ve got someone on the right who’s still not a permanent signing We’ve ‘hired’ countless loanees as backup so no real commitment there We’ve signed and committed to Richarlison We’ve had 4 managers in that time our journey under Poch started at a similar time to Klopps They bought Salah, Mane, Firmino They won everything Mane sold Firmino is going at the end of this season Salah still here They’ve started a rebuild under Klopp Bought in Nunez, Diaz, Jota and Gakpo You spot the difference in pissing about? in building a team and re building as opposed to being clueless and now and again landing on your feet…maybe. There is no strategy and understanding of recycling a squad because like Boehly…our owner is clueless.
I’ll still never forget that goal City scored against us a couple years back where Sanchez basically faceplanted when trying to defend against Gundogan. The bloke’s meant to be a Spurs defender but has often been opposition team’s best player. Like a good few others, it’s in comprehensible he’s managed to stay at this club for so long.
We tried rebuilding but ****ed up so many signings in the last few years we’ve gotta rebuild on the rebuilds
They've also got much more income than us and are a much bigger draw for players due to their history. And they have finished below us more often than not and are currently below us.
Liverpool have been worse than us this season. Their recent performance against City was humiliating, as was their slapping by Madrid. Their midfield's awful and they'd be battling relegation without Alisson. Their so-called World Class Defence and Mentality Monsters have been exposed as a myth. They've done exactly what we did with Pochettino and failed to kick on when on top. Milner, Henderson, Keita and Oxlaide-Chamberlain should all have gone and Melo should never have joined. Fabinho's looked a shadow of his former self and Thiago's predictably struggled with injuries. Gegenpressing relies on being able to run all day and none of them can now. Klopp's earned the leeway he's being given. Have their owners? Not for me. They may well rescue this season, somehow, but they've been ****. £100m on Uruguayan Andy Carroll and Wish.com Bergwijn? Pass. They can have Mane back soon, as he's lost it, too.
sounds like an excuse to me I don’t think they have much more money than us and the history angle is a bit weak. No one in this generation gives a **** what Liverpool did in the 80’s. we’ve had plenty Champions league seasons as have they…granted they’ve won a few more than us in the past but I don’t think players care about that…they care about where a club is going...if you need proof of that then just watch carefully who comes in at Newcastle in the foreseeable.
only this season they have been worse They are re building…our recent performances against Southampton and Bournemouth have been humiliating at least theirs was against Madrid and City. They were mentality monsters when it counted and bagged the lot. VVDwas never the same after his injury but being the colossus that he was…he deserved the chance to try and find his feet again. They are re building…it seems as though they have started upfront…where have we started? Nowhere…haphazard as usual. Nunez has just arrived but arrive he did as did Gapko. That young lad from Fulham is replacing Firmino. we can nit pick but ultimately you can see a rebuild can’t see **** all at Spurs…just a throw enough **** and some might stick attitude but no structure. We’ve purchased Richarlison to cover for Kane, Son , Kulusevski and probably the ****ing ice cream van man outside the stadium.
