I'm aware I don't understand these things but what could possibly be taking so much time? What is international clearance?

They check your eligibility to live and work in another country and a load of other admin. All of your obligations to the selling club are complete, proof of a contract offer in the new country. FIFA don't rush anything and have presumably been inundated with requests the last couple of days. I'll bet they don't work Saturdays either!

International clearance is standard and no big issue. With the amount of transfer happened in the last few days it wont be fast but will be done before the Chelsea game

The FA have accepted we completed all the paperwork on time thats why we confirmed the deal

Now the club has made a statement it goes give me more confidence it'll go through. Let's face it if the club messed it up it'd cause a fair bit of reputation damage with fans mainly but outside too but if they made a statement as they have and then it gets refused, that'd be even worse so surely the statement could only be made if they have no doubt

The rational part of my brain knows this, unfortunately being a city fan makes you predisposed to thinking the worst <yikes>

Mercury reporting FIFA will be reviewing the case today, decision tomorrow. I've read the transfer has gone through but worst case scenario is he'll not be able to play until January. I can't confirm or deny the credibility of that info.

He is registered in our Premier League squad with shirt number 30 apparently so FA are confident everything is done properly on our side.

Source at FIFA tells me they are still looking for an ink pad. They found a drawer full of money and got distracted for a while. If they dont find an ink pad then they will refuse clearance. Top has offered to send an ink pad over in his helicopter, but FIFA declined as they cannot be deemed to be influenced by a wealthy benefactor (unless he refills said drawer).

FIFA are now assessing Ali's finger and it's gesturing so I'm therefore assuming they're too busy to be approving any international clearance for us.

How anyone could think this is normal I don't understand. Why would we let Drinkwater go if everything wasn't in place with Silva! It all looks incompetent by the club. It seems one possibility is that he has signed by can't be registered to play until January

I don't understand it but it sounds like it but then FIFA have to grant clearance due to it being an international transfer. Something is wrong got take this long. Ironically FIFA's issue seems to be if some paperwork was later (most likely by second or a few minutes) yet they can take all the time they want. Double standards. Only Leicester could refuse to sell Drinkwater without having a replacement, line the replacement up, sell him then not sign the replacement in time
