My fear (which isn't really a fear as it is a nailed on certainty) is that future young fans will be really happy because they will never know how exciting football was.
There's a difference between an acceptance of the good points of technology....and downright worship of it....in the sense that if something is possible then it must be done regardless.
 
i sense their will be a lot of VAR issues this season.
the trouble is the game is so fast now compared to say the 1990s and there is no way ref's can keep up with it (not that they could then either) so technology is the natural way forward but I can already hear alan shearer moaning about it on MOTD 'fans wont be able to properly celebrate a goal' etc. etc...
it will take a few years to sort out i expect

Sorry, I was just off somewhere else. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
 
So it's been fun today having loads of people who I've been arguing with over the Summer come up and tell me that they're now having doubts :biggrin:
 
VAR is NOT suited to FOOTBALL .

Third umpire in cricket ? Yes 100% yes .

Flags in American Football , Part of that culture .

Football is all about passion spur ( sorry ) of the moment decisions . To halt a game of football for a questionable ( OR not ) decisions , robs it of the pure INTESITY & PASSION of the game .

It must be totally alien to the supporters / fans .

It did, and we certainly can have no complaints about our game.......it saved us a couple times!
But, I still don't like it, and I'm just dreading being on the end of a wolves decision, its going to be awful.

On the note of our game I can see it getting a bit silly if the refs aren't gonna blow for a flag just in case there's a goal. Sure he blew before it went in too which raises a whole new set of questions.
 
The thing I like the most about it is that Refs being hung out to dry and crucified by TV pundits with the benefit of slow mo and several camera angles will be a thing of the past and important things like cup finals and promotion/relegation have a much better chance of being decided fairly and not by human error by 3 officials in real time.
It is paramount to get the right decision on game changing moments IMO.
