Sorry if I came across as being a snob with my post. I am 100% not any sort of music expert or critic. I love this thread and all the different eras and styles of music everyone posts, for me being a music lover it educational<ok><cheers>

Please keep up the good work everyone<applause>

In my defence, I was about 8 years old, and pestered my parents to get me the album.

In my teens, I was party to the big Mod revival of the early 80s, and having been brought up on The Beatles, listening to The Who, Stones, Kinks etc was not a problem - I still have most of The Who albums on vinyl, and I totally loved the Northern Soul scene. Was also into Madness/Specials and the whole 2-Tone/Ska.

Then along came Joy Division, The Smiths and early U2 (Bono is such a knob these days, anything post-87 is not the same band) which changed my course. Indie had arrived, and I never looked back. Now I look back upon the music of my youth with great pleasure, but nowadays there is such a diverse amount of stuff to listen too - and yes, it's difficult to keep in touch with a lot of it, but there are hidden gems amongst the dross, as well as the more popular bands. It's a great feeling when you find a band nobody has heard of and you listen to them over and over, then suddenly they have a big hit and you can say you were there at the beginning!! I used to buy 10-20 CDs a month, now it's all downloads and streaming, so my money goes on live music, as thats how the industry makes money these days.

Never really liked Disco, Soul, Rap or Pop, C&W either - each to their own I suppose, but again, not snobby about it. However, the stuff flooding the mainstream charts these days is dire - can honestly say that X Factor and the other dross has never graced my TV on a Saturday night (gotta get the missus away from the dancing for start!!)

Keep posting - hardly ever been any disagreements on this thread over any tunes, long may it last - peace to all!

Enjoy work tomorrow, I'm off to the pool to chill and sunbathe!!
