And now for something completely different! Craig Charles played these today, and was talking about their KEXP performance....it's way out there!!!

Funky outfits, banging rock/jazz/psych and every genre inbetween - what's not to like

This has to be watched to be believed, it's brilliant

Off to Zambretto for a nice Italian meal beforehand, then on to this. A new venue for me, holds about 1200 so should be fairly intimate...and NOISY!

Public service broadcasting playing a 700 standing only venue in Wellington
the meow club which is a fantastic place to see bands
Guessing if the sell quick enough it might get moved to meow nui which holds a thousand people

Were they as good as usual Steels?

It's the smallest venue I've seen Mogwai in, and **** me did they fill it with noise.. my ears are still ringing <yikes>

PSB in a 700 venue will be amazing, seen them a couple of times in the Barrowlands which holds 1900, as well as some outdoor venues. Hope Meow has a big enough stage to cope with all the visuals and extra band members...the brass section are brilliant when they come on.

As always, unbelievable. That's the third time I've seen them on this tour, and the setlist has been different every time, which is really refreshing as a lot of bands just play the same songs over and over again. A mix of their older stuff and some stuff from the new album.

Nice small venue, reckon about 750 on the floor, then two levels of seating above which added to the intimacy. We were about 10 feet away from the stage...honestly thought my eardrums had burst after two songs, it was so loud. Mrs SM isn't as familiar with the songs, and nearly jumped out of her skin when Mogwai Fear Satan went to the quiet bit and then kicks in full force <laugh>

Setlist

  1. God Gets You Back
  2. Hi Chaos
  3. Ithica 27ø9
  4. If You Find This World Bad, You Should See Some of the Others
  5. How to Be a Werewolf
  6. Drive the Nail
  7. Pale Vegan Hip Pain
  8. Hunted by a Freak
  9. Mogwai Fear Satan
  10. Ritchie Sacramento
  11. Remurdered
  12. Lion Rumpus

  13. New Paths to Helicon, Pt. 1
  14. We're No Here

I'm a bit gutted we're not going to see them when they support The Cure in the summer through in Edinburgh, but it's a logistical nightmare at that venue right out by the airport...**** knows why they started doing gigs there a couple of years ago, it's during the Edinburgh Festival so accomodation is extortionate, and rail links are awful. I'm going to see Twilight Sad later this year anyway, so that's both supports I'll have seen.

Playing Birmingham tonight...are you going? They are also headlining Robert Smiths charity gig at the Royal Albert Hall...that will be something special, hope they record that.
