Bony....the one player I really wanted us to go for..... he was always going to have to step down a level to get regular football.....surely we can compete with Stoke??

Kids.....couldn't even get near the bench last season.....can't believe anyone thinks throwing them into the 1st team is plausible.
If we can get one kid to come through the ranks and be up to PL standard this season it would be brilliant.....the bar is being raised all the time, you have to be realistic about blooding youth.

Oh I tend to agree,it's just lucky all these mature players keep turning up out of nowhere ready to play.<laugh><laugh>

He was on £100k a week + £20k per game. Granted he wouldn't have got many - if any - games staying at City, but it's still a potential half a million a month.

Anyway, no one knows how transfers work in reality - why wouldn't West Ham go for him if it were that easy, let alone Saints?

Cost; £3-5m or some such in wages with no resale value isn't our game.

I wonder if anyone enquired about Morgan. Would have thought he'd have been a better signing for Spuds than Sissoko (though I suspect MP will draw out the France Sissoko more than the Newcastle version).

Why do people care what Everton are doing?

I personally don't give a toss about other clubs and to celebrate them missing out on a player (whom many don't rate anyway) when they'll likely finish above us anyway just seems a bit silly and even bitter to me.
So how much of that 100M did they spend? Oh wait.. they got 50 for stones.

So Koeman upped sticks to a team that has had an arguably much worse window than dear old Saints. They've added a bit of depth but thats about it. Personally I think we've improved the squad just not deepened it. I do wish Koeman had not got so stuck up his own arse and stayed put but thats the game. here's hoping the squad settles quickly.

Happy with squad size. There are two senior players for each position.
There is that balance between squad depth and youth pathway.
The squad size is the same as last season and we finished it strongly.

I think the negativity towards the board is because it doesn't feel like we are in control of our transfers.
by that I mean we're not selling our average players and replacing them with potential first teamers.
e.g. I bet on football manager a lot of us would sell Yoshida and buy a new first choice centre back to replace Fonte and then he would be third choice

Instead we're replacing first teamer for first teamer and that can make fans nervous if those replacements don't work out

Right so who do we reckon is off next Summer then? ;)

I'll start with Virgil... <whistle>

Virgil & Tadic both referred to the next two years with the club in their extension interviews, and the interviewer referred to the same timeframe a couple of times in the Boufal interview regards what he'd achieve in that timeframe with the club. We may as well accept now that as part of our business model these three are already pre-planned to exit stage right in summer 2018. Most likely for tidy profits, and most likely to be replaced at that time by someone unproven in the PL so will be seen as a risk by the fans.

Surely we've learned to not take words as gospel by now.

My thinking is Virgil is our best player currently and after a 2nd storming season that will be enough for one of the big boys to come in with a bid.

Once that happens recent history shows us that the player will generally fancy the move and we'll generally sell no?

More than anything, we need to hope that Fonte has another top-level season left in his locker. We haven't strengthened the defense at all, and they'll likely have less protection from midfield. He and VVD are going to need to come up big for us.

Remember that debate we had where I argued that we had less money than people might think?

Yeah... I think we could have easily spent another 25m.

Trying to decide if Saints are just too cheap or if we just have faith in our youth. The latter is less damaging, but even then I think the faith is misplaced.

I'm not going crazy over it, because the club has earned a good deal of rope. But they pretty much just used all of it.

Couldn't disagree more with your last paragraph. We're forever in the Liebherrs debt regardless of what they do (barring very extreme circumstances which would never happen).

At the end of the day no one knows how much we've got to spend or how close we are to our self sufficient line. But it seems when discussed on here a lot seem to think that when people are asking for more money to be spent that others think that the people asking for that mean to go beyond our means ie. Kat bankroll us.

I don't think any Saints fan would want/ is asking for that. Having a team to watch is more important than any success.
