Put it this way, he may be 4-1 to be next Everton manager, but he's also 3-1 to be next Barcelona manager (and favourite to be next Arsenal manager, so....)

I think he'd find it hard to turn down arsenal. So let's hope they don't offer it to him, even though it won't be till Wenger's contract is up if they do.

Hopefully he'll sign an extension this summer, but there'll always be cause to worry if one of the top jobs in football becomes vacant. For any toffees who may be watching, Everton is not a top job.

It's kind of the one instance where his integrity might come back to bite us. If he wants the Arsenal job, he'll want to wait and see if it's going to come available next summer, and therefore not extend with us, as it would mean breaking his contract (something he's vowed not to do). But without him extending it puts us in that uncomfortable position of having a manager who is most likely to go in a year. Hmmm.

I wish Wenger would hurry up and sign some kind of lifetime deal...

Why do you think I wanted Arsenal to win the league this season? Everyone wanted Leicester to win it but Arsenal winning it = Wenger staying longer.

I wonder if he can sign a new deal with a break clause should Arsenal/Barca (or a CL club) come in for him. I mean, yes he can, but to me that sounds like the best option all round.

Agree with this, and make the break clause only available in the off season (say within a month of our final game).

Oh for the day when all football clubs negotiate for a player or manager in a quiet, decent, dignified, honourable, discreet, professional, respectful way like Southampton do rather than the ugly, vulgar, common, indecent, brash, boastful, scouser way that Everton have demonstrated in their effort to sign Ronald. But this just shows what a class act Southampton FC is and what a vulgar, common lot Everton are. Everton have obviously been learning from and copying Tottenham.

He's been mentioned for the Arsenal job for a long time, but I'm not 100% sure it'll fit RonKo.

He's an empire builder from top to bottom, and we know that the pressure that exists at Arsenal won't tolerate him building slow and steady like Wenger has.

Sometimes I think that he's linked just so he can be associated with the "big clubs", but as we know the status quo is changing. I could see him being allowed more time at a club like Barca, yes they expect success, but he has his past links as currency and he would t have to do the youth development bit. But, I don't think he'd be ready for that yet... Maybe a couple more years with us line the last 2.

I looked at it the other way, Wenger does a Fergie and retires after winning the league

Oh the ignorance of youth. Southampton is a city steeped in a rich history with its port alone contributing £1billion a year to the economy. It is people that make cities **** holes and one of life's tragedies is that the people of Southampton don't know what a litter bin is for.
That and council don't know how to build that many nice buildings.

Fergie left because he saw his team was on its last legs, and got grief from his missus about lack of time together. Pretty sure Mrs Wenger would be pleased to get that miserable git out the house for another 5 years

lol

Only Everton haven't uttered a word about their search for a new manager, and the press have been miles behind the actual events.

Saints fans tend to be very selective in what they read/hear in the news, I don't remember anyone complaining at how public some of our previous summer business was, ie - Clasie, Van Dijk, Forster, Wanyama, Cedric, Pelle, etc...

Also, if you spend enough time on this board, you'll be forgiven for thinking that the media only make rumours up about people leaving Saints. Apparently it happens to no other club!
