    It would be a signing on fee to the player, so we wouldnt pay the club, just the player in question.

    15m signing bonus sounds a bit nuts, but a 15m fee would seem pretty cheap. Regardless, I'm not going to get too expectant on that one.

    I mean it must be bollocks, but it is such a random thing to make up. If he does want £15m signing on fee that is nothing compared to what his value would be with say 4 years left on his contract. Also it is not exactly going to put off any of the big clubs from signing him anyway. As I say surely bollocks but why would we even be mentioned unless there was some truth to it

    There may be reasons that the club want us mentioned as being in the race even if there’s zero chance of it happening.

    Additional press coverage always good for improving the club’s reach in new markets.
    Keeps fans on side and excited.
    Season ticket sales.
    Shows ambition to other players the we’re aiming high, which may attract better players of the tier below Rabiot that we’re more likely to sign.
    May persuade another target in the same position to sign.

    Like you Magic, I won’t believe it unless it’s officially announced. Would be the biggest shock signing in our history since Keegan. We’re not even quoted at any price with the bookies.
