If you don't win the cup, the earlier you go out the better, so it doesn't impact your league form aswell <whistle>

If we had Messi and Ronaldo we will never beat everton, they are the bogey/jinx team in our history 17 matches now. And why was Felini given acres of space. Why was Colback dropped ?. Unless we finish above the mags this season has been a disaster, and watched the replay when i got back in and that scumbag who elbowed Bendtner in the face should have been sent off.

What's your point, your god of a manager surely has brought in the right players to allow you to cope with situations like that? It's a squad game not a team game.

Clearly in a squad you have your best 11 players and the ones who don't make the first team are subs and then you have back up, clearly they are not going to be as good as the first choice players (odd exception here and there). Is that too difficult for you to understand, look at your own inept stand in centre half to fill in any blanks you have (plenty I've heard)

Of course they're not as good, but my point is that injuries is never an excuse. That's why you have a squad, if you choose not to invest in a certain area of the squad, you bring problems on yourself.

I don't think you can have a go at O'Neill about the squad though, as he only came into the job in December anddidn't have enough time to assess his squad by January. We have 3 center backs out injured all whom would have played before the greek. I feel you squad comment is misplaced on this occasion. <ok>

it wasnt that bad a sub

    - the greek is shocking
    - everton were controling the midfield playing 5 across the midfield
    - he normally can pick a pass
    -catts coulddrop back to defend

Please explain how you can disagree about this not being Martin O'Neill's squad? How many players has he bought? - 0 - he has loaned 2 but the SQUAD is much more than just 2 players.

I'm not so sure about that to be honest. Sure, the default notion of progressing is a nice one, but the further you get, the more gutting it is when you get booted out. That feeling can obviously be put up with when you have the chance of winning, but with such good teams reaching the final, those chances are slim whilst the chances of disappointment at some point are high.

I've noticed that since we got booted out so early on, the disappointment I had in not going further has been balanced out with the relief that we didn't get far enough to really get our hopes up. When it happens so early you just feel a bit 'meh' about it and it doesn't fuss you either way. On the other hand, if we got kicked out in the quarter or semi finals, I'd be a lot more sore about it, despite no additional benefits of reaching that far other than being able to say that you got to the quarters in the FA Cup.

I get your point, but personally as long as it didnt have adverse affect on our league form i would have loved an FA Cup quarter final. Obviously the heartache at going out at that stage is bad, but having some more exitement and something else to look forward to would have been nothing but positive.

Some of us are always around Commachio!

On the sub, to be honest I could see what he was thinking. The big daft greek was having the proverbial nightmare. Jelavic was leading him a merry dance at times on the deck. He didn't look fit to be fair to him. The only thing I would question is that he had Kilgallon on the bench. A few of my mackem mates reckon he has done ok when he has been involved. Now I wouldn't know enough about Sunderland to know if was just back from injury etc, but if he is on the bench he is surely fit enough? O'Neill should have just removed the terrible Gardner and the big daft greek. Cruel on Vaughan, trying to do the right thing but made a dogs dinner of it.

In hindsight the substitution was wrong. But I understand what MON was trying to do - get control of the midfield so we start to attack properly.

Even if MON did get this one wrong, doesn't make him less tactically able than before - the best managers in the world make mistakes and learn from them, it's the **** managers that never learn that we want to stay well clear of.

Yeah maybe it would have been nice, but due to what I said earlier, it really doesn't fuss me either way.

The extra games would have been nice to watch, I agree there.

Although it all ended in tears the ride was fun, would I prefer a third round knock out next year or another quarter final with a chance at the semi's (and we were close at one stage, we were winning at goodison.) Sorry Chaps but I would opt for the quarter finals every time, and I'm sure you are the same. Your team have every chance of making Europe next year, are you really saying you'd rather get knocked out at the first hurdle or some great memorys and boosting the clubs profile with a quarter final appearance, same with the f.a.cup. The further the better in my view. <cheers>

He could have brought in options during the entire January transfer window. He clearly had the choice to do so as he brought in Bridge and "the Greek". If he wanted more/different players he could have done so. For me, injuries are never ever an excuse in any situation.
