But you said you cant argue with games played and goals scored. His overall record is bound to be a better reflection on how good a goalscorer he is rather than the handful of games he has played in the prem.

He was younger then. He has matured as a player and has improved due to this maturity. You clearly don't get this at all. If he is doing well in the Premier League for Newcastle then that is all that matters for us.

Bear in mind he's only just turned 25 and in his last two seasons is averaging more than a goal every two games, I'm delighted with our Championship quality striker. His record at 21 is irrelevant frankly.

Exactly! Obviously our Ram shagging friend from the midlands is a little too simple!

Taking his thoughts about looking at a players record when they first began thier careers would you rate this striker below?

1987-88: 5 appearances and 3 goals
1988-89: 10 appearances and 0 goals
1989-90: 35 appearances and 5 goals

Who is it?

Answer: Alan Shearer

Who cares, that is a small number of games in comparison to what best has played. Best has played over 200 games in his career, he is hardly a kid.

Is it Shola?

I am talking about his current games played and goals scored. That is what matters. Not every player hits the goal trail straight away, it can take time and in the past year Best has proven that he can score at the highest level!

I'm going to go through Best's goals from memory as I've seen them all

West Ham - a now championship team

2 tap ins from a combined total of 6-8 yards. 1 one-on-one.

Arsenal

a tap in from 5 yards

Brum - a now championship team

header from close range

Everton

tap in from a yard

This season

Fulham

2 goals that should, imho, have been dealt with by the keeper

Aston Villa

Tap in from a yard after he fluffed a golden opportunity with a header from 3 yards which he really should have scored.

On top of this he really offers nothing in terms of linking up. He's not overly quick, strong or exceptional in the air. Demba Ba is by far our best striker imho, he drops deep to join in the midfield and looks like he can create. Best, to be fair, is our next best striker.

So you just contradict yourself to support your argument?

How is that contradicting myself? I am saying he is a good striker currently. I can't argue with the fact that four years ago he was a poor striker with a poor strike rate. But now he has a good strike rate!
