so?

Its only moeny after all. If they back themselves into a corner and say take it or leave it and we say... bye... then where are they?

there's two sides to it after all. Yours is quite reasonable but so is ours.

I would agree it should not go beyond this window or the price drops but equally in some bizarre world sterling could panic after 3 months in the u21s and sign a new deal. god only knows really. the euros coming up might panic him if he's frozen out by us. That of course depends on what orders are given to rodgers from on high.

the most likely scernario is an acceptable deal is stuck in the next month or so foar the player.
City should just walk off and say that's our final bid

Who else is going to pay that amount for him?

No-one.

There's no way Sterling is ever going re-sign at Anfield given what's been said to press, so that's a fantasy scenario. If you ended up with an unhappy player in your stiffs he'd be de-valuing by the day, so you simply have to sell him. The only question that remains is who ends up playing the game better. City are using the press here for a start off and I have zero doubt that the £35.5m figure quoted includes a large proportion of add ons.

bet you some clown will... but most of all they will i think return in july with tweaked bid to try again.

never say never btw tobes. I said it was a bizarre scenario but peoepl would have said the same about suarez who took the cash then moved on within 6 months. How'd you know sterling won't do the same if he doesn't get sorted this time round.

Suarez was sensible enough to make his noises about a move in a much more subtle way, he never alienated the fanbase in the way Sterling has here.

He'd have to eat a mountain of **** to backtrack from where he's put himself here, and he simply isn't the type imo.

I can't see any other club putting up £35m for him, as he's not worth £35m mate.

You haven't got complete control, over it at all.

He's openly said he wants to leave, he's only got 2 years left, so he has to go this window in order for you to gain the maximum value that you can from the sale. Therefore, clubs know that you won't shut the door in their face as you have to sell this window, therefore you're not in control as you would be if he had say 3 or 4 years left, as you can't let it roll on beyond August.

He's not even the best young player in the EPL let alone the World ffs.

Complete control may be the wrong phrase but we do have leverage.

As I've said, number of teams are interested, he has 2 years left on his contract.

Must remember - he's 'only' on £35k. So unless we sell him this summer, he can sulk for a year on lower wages which could ruin his rep and ruin any potential move in the future.

If we don't sell him now, I suspect he will sign a new deal similar to the Suarez situation.

And which youngsters are better than Sterling in this league?

What?? He did an unauthorised interview with Guardian where he said he wanted to leave. Of course he alienated the fanbase - it wasn't until he started banging in the goals was he easily forgiven.

<laugh>

ok ok so sterling was not subtle I'll admit but suarez stood up in uraguay camp at copa and said I want to leave! how much more clear does it need to be to be not classed as subtle!

All he'd need do is take his 100k from jan to may then go to euros with england. the alternative if john henry had the balls wuld be u21s and no euros.

The fact is his worth is determined by his age and nationality nothing more. He's played woeful for last 4 months in particular but it matters for naught if city are this desperate for success... you should know Lescott was never worth 26mil.

precisely. ffs 20k was given to flanagan to recuperate and prob not play a game for us so 35k is bascially chump change it seems.

It is only idle speculation and an unlikely thing to occur but its not impossible.

It would however scare the pants of any future players trying it on.

I'm sure sulking on 35k is what he won't do.

He will be a first 11 player if he stays and will only improve. However if a change of manager happens then it's possible he could stay.

In fairness, although it's obvious what's going on and he's mad agent wouldn't stop chatting ****, but Sterling hasn't actually said a word since the BBC things has he?

The current Young Player of the Year for a start off.

Sterling is a good player but he's a million miles off World level brilliance, if was really that good then the World elite would be queuing up for him and not just a top end PL club looking to bolster their homegrown quota.

which young player of the year? <whistle>

no seriously eden hazard is.... 24.. so to complare a "young" 24 year old to a 20 year old is going a wee bit too far there tobes.

how about you pick someone 21 like harry kane? or anyone in u21 squad now playing in euros

I agree, on current form he ain't worth no where near that much...
In a world where the clubs have power the "good" old senario of "let him rot in the reserves" could have been an option...
If you don't want to play for us, you ain't playing for anyone else for another 2 years.....
But that would be like cutting our nose off to spite our face these days, where, unless you're the real big powerhouses of football, which I'm afraid were not anymore.. then to rebuild we need to players that want to play for us and in order to get those players we need to finance them with the sale of players that no longer want to be here and those no longer deemed necessary, Sterling is part of the former..
All boils down to how much potential do City see in Sterling and how much do they really need another for their "home grown" tally..
He'll go, most likely for £40 straight up rather than the offer of £35+5 in add ons that's been reported..
At that price, he could turn out to be a huge flop.. (every fickle fans preferred scenario), or
Prove to be a bargain (could be, if he continues to develop and turns in the player we all think he can be...)
Good luck to the lad to be honest, which one of us wouldn't move onto a new job that pays more, more chances of being successful, etc?
Just hope that when we get the money for him we don't set fire to it like we did for the most part last season!

It won't scare anyone, he will get his move away. The only reason he thinks he can act like this is due to the praise and

Kane, Sterling, Stones (Flannagan) Barkley etc should all be at the U21's

Has Sterling had a good season without Suarez, according to some LFC posters he has been poor and was carried by Suarez.

So Kane filling his boots and then doing well at the U21's will only serve to raise his profile and asking price. He has I believe as many England goals as Sterling also?

£35m is crazy money and if Kane did that with Spurs squad then he must be worth more.....surely.
