If Sterling is not a top player....why offer him too money

Because at Liverpool, he is one of our top players.

That is the issue - LFC are in a position where a 20 year old is one our best players which is why he is commanding such wages. OF course, it's not relative to his age but it is relative to his status at the club.

So some fans can cry about Raheem Sterling wanting to leave, I think we should focus on the real issues at the club.

I don't think that is relevant at all. Wages are usually based on what they're worth to the club and what the player is able to earn elsewhere. Sure, he's one of our better players (which say more about the squad than Raheem IMO) but who else is going to give him £100k+ per week and put him in the first team every week?

message to sterling.

If you'd scored v cheslea last year... LFc wuold prob have got you a league medal

If you'd scored v cheslea this year you'd have been in league cup final

If you'd tried a leg in fa cup semi.. well you'd have a chance

Look to yourself son.. medals... don't make me laugh.

money money money...

<applause>

Typical of the spoilt brat new age footballer.

£100k a week offer from the club who've made him a star and he's been supposedly "bullied"

Makes me sick tbh, I actually feel sorry for you over this one.

I know I've not been on lately.. but what the hell, hell frozen over..
Tobes, you OK fella :D

My point of view... think both us (the club) and Sterling (and is Agent) have played it out in the media too much..
So no one is in the right here, in my book..

But if the quotes of him "being bullied into signing a £100K a week" deal is true, then phuck me! The lad has a nerve!
Yes, he's played a whole host of positions but you need to be flexible! Suarez last year played right across the front 3... Milner on occasions plays 4 positions in one game!
The lad, when he was burnt out, we sent him on a holiday for two weeks mid season FFS...
We've played him more than we liked but his form last year and earlier this year made him undropable (along with the limited options we had).
He's a very good player with the "potential" to be something special...
But if he thinks he's going to get regular game time at the likes of Arsenal (The OX who I rate highly can't seem to hold down a regular spot...)
City will go big this summer, esp. if the FFP rules are relaxed, can't see him going or us selling him to United and Chelsea don't need him either, not if Jose was to play his preferred line up...
So, continue at Liverpool, earn over £100K a week (but how's the poor sole meant to live on that), play week in week out, develop into the player we hope you can be and if we (as a team) have don't sod all in a 2/3 years, then move, by that time, he'd have establised himself has one of best players in the league and be able to walk into any team here and maybe in Europe...

But, doubt most young'uns see the "big" picture, too many what the "get rich quick" option...

If he goes, then good luck to the lad, we'll move on, like we've done in the past and will do so again..
Just hope this time any "windfall" we get from the sale of Sterling is used on more established stars rather than players with potential!

You;re right - it's more an indictment to the club that he is in this position.

And whilst fans will want to criticise Sterling and say he's sh*t, take him out of this team and what else do we have left?

If people are happy to just turn their back on Sterling, then I guarantee they will do the same to Coutinho, Sturridge, Can etc.

Can't really add much else to this other than Brendan Rodgers is an extremely lucky man.

With Gerrard's final game, and Sterling's contract saga - this team's awful run of 8 points from 8 games has gone pretty much unnoticed. Yet again, we mask the core issues at the club.

If we were in a better position in terms of quality (ie capable of challenging for the league and getting regular CL football) than obviously Sterling would have signed a new deal long before it hit the papers and none of us would have been any wiser to Sterling and his agents antics. So yes, the position he finds himself in as contributed to the situation.

However, I still think you're missing the point. Fans are criticising Sterling because of the way he's handled it. Sure the club deserve some blame for that too but you're talking about Liverpool supporters so they love the club no matter what whereas players come and go, there is only ever going to be one winner in an argument like that. Sterling not being arsed since the turn of the year and missing two yard sitters certainly hasn't help Raheem's cause either.

It's top money to us, and tbh he's one of our better players, but that doesn't say much at the moment. But in the grand scheme of things 100kpw is just nothing now, not when Milner is offered 160k at City ffs

According to the Daily Fail <ok>

Agree - this whole thing has been poorly handled by everyone.
