I bought a running top rather than a hiking top too, much lighter and thinner. Quint be too cold at this time of year so really depends on personal preference

WE been given a shirt which is actually pretty good. stretchy and breathable, plus have a sports type jacket I got to wear over top, plus have a waterproof big jacket. but I get warm, so don't think that'll be a problem.

Don't wear the other socks.. .if you bought even cheap hiking socks they are designed to be wickable and reduce chance of blisters... adding socks that aren't designed to do it will negate that... like wearing a breathable t-shirt and putting a cotton one under it......wet

Fair enough, i'll just wear the socks and bring extra just in case.

Says non-slip but I bet they're a bastard on damp / wet grass, that type usually are

Yeah, planning on sticking to as many paths as possible, so shouldn't be too much of a problem. Hoping it won't bloody rain either! But it's the north so you know...

The top isn't really a issue whilst walking. It's when you stop and take your back off, it's ****ing horrible putting it back on if your tops wet. Sports tops dry quickly

I always buy boots from a shop. You need to try them on, imo. You can feel the ones that are right for you.

I normally do, but they were bloody expensive in most shops and I wanted something cheap so. I don't find shoes too much of a problem. Generally always same size and can just bulk up with extra socks if needed

Had a lot of rain for the last two weeks so you could do with a bit of sunshine to dry it out a bit

I'm going into this with the idea that it's a gentle walk with no problems... reckon you lot making this out to be a lot more than needed <whistle>

No, I mean t-shirt type top. Didn't bother with underlayer, nor did I bother with a jacket even though it was quite chilly (I wore gloves still)

The higher prices.. .waterproof...breathable stuff lol....

If yours works in bad weather I'll share with all my great number of outdoor friends lol

<laugh>
I'll let you know.

I'm planning on playing football on the Monday the day after finishing as well so <whistle>

Deffo wear proper hiking socks on your feet

I always wear running gear when I go hiking, got a nice technical waterproof running jacket that's really light and good for this time of year, no good for cold weather unless you layer up underneath it. As long as the item (mid-layer / base layer i.e. the ones under waterproof layer) is wicking and draws sweat and moisture away from the body it's good

For colder months I have a couple of North Face jackets, one is a hooded soft-shell style one and the other is a proper hard core waterproof lightweight outer jacket

I'd you've not done it before it'll be harder than you think. However, if you're taking it steady and doing it over two days you should be fine. The second day will be harder though; little niggles and aches from the first day etc
