Bristol City manager latest as Jon Lansdown reveals Nigel Pearson successor discussions
The hunt is underway for Bristol City’s next manager after parting company with Nigel Pearson.

Interestingly, Lansdown referred to the role as head coach, rather than first-team manager, perhaps outlining a change in structure at the club. A head coach trains and picks the team, whereas as a manager has more of a say in to player purchases and sales.

This may also have played a part in the decision to move Nige on. He has openly stated he leaves the coaching to others. Perhaps that is not the model the club hierarchy wanted. The head coach title is what LJ & DH had from memory, and he was much closer to the coaching than he was player purchases and sales.

He is though, it was his vision with the academy that has brought us the £35 million last year.
I get that you are angry and understand that you wanted Nige to stay, (I did as well) but we can’t change that decision. But let’s not make things up by saying they don’t want non footballing people when they’ve got him at the club feeding them right or wrong information. It’s been touched on in a report that he expressed his concern over fitness and health. No one is going to come out and say “we didn’t think Nige was well enough to continue”. We are all second guessing what went on in that meeting.

At the end of the day we are Bristol City fans and some of us will be here longer than the Lansdown’s and Tinnion have gone. Nige is gone, we’ve got to move on and hope they choose the right person to either carry on what was happening or even better push for promotion.
His vision bought Semenyo and Scott to the club granted, but it was the willingness of Nige and the coaching of the first team coaches that turned them into £35m assets, who were among the players to thank Nige in Social media ? . Name me one manager since A/D who’s given anywhere near as much game time and commitment to the young lads.

That worked well didn’t it?

On the pitch, yes, more so than under Pearson. It was the player sales & purchase bit that went wrong, but that was between the CEO and Chairman. In fact, it wasn't even really the purchases and sales, it was the contracts and wages, as once COVID hit, that is what killed our finances when we couldn't trade anymore

Luke Williams is being tipped by a few on OTIB. So I have copied this you tube from there on his style. He was ex City in charge of the youngsters so knows and worked with Tinnion. He left during the LJ/MA time.

Too much hearsay going on IMO...proverbial fly on the wall syndrome!!!!

JL looked shell-shocked and lost particularly at the end of his brief interview. It had to be brief, the poor sod is so far out of his depth it's untrue.
Tins talked bollocks. It's OK wanting this and that style of play but ffs keep it in context. Our injuries are horrendous throughout the team.

Never had time for JL, son of SL, the only reason he's anywhere near our club.
But Tins, you have gone deep south in my opinion.

Next Bristol City manager
  • John Eustace - 13/8
  • Gary Rowett - 5/2
  • Nathan Jones - 5/1
  • Curtis Fleming - 10/1
  • Frank Lampard - 10/1
  • Gareth Ainsworth - 10/1
  • Steve Cotterill - 10/1

Whoever we end up appointing, amid my total lack of interest in the whole affair, I wish them well but I don't see any names that light my fire in any way. All of them have either had their spell in the limelight and followed that praise with not very much in the ensuing time or their time has long since passed. Neil Warnock has often said he would like to manage Bristol City and perhaps 10 years ago he might have fitted the bill better than he can in today's footballing world. The biggest issue for me in the hiring process is what lies will be told to get the person on board only to be followed up by false claims by all concerned. Steve Lansdown built the bridge to sanity and then tore it down by failing to give his manager of choice the respect he deserves, because Nigel has more football hiding under his finger nails than the rest of the club suits put together. Watching Robins TV over the last 2 seasons has made me think that Tinns talks a load of old bullocks and despite his acclamations for his work with the youngsters perhaps he is the proverbial spanner in the works all along. Being a club legend should never give you the right to stir things up to the point that the whole house of cards comes crashing down around our ears, and not for the first time in the last several years. I think it's time to look outside the normal boxes and look for a new manager looking to make a name for themselves after perhaps managing overseas under the usual radar. Historically we are a club that just drifts from one problem to the next without a clue as to how to be better at what we do, and until such time as the top brass, and their no-nothing offspring, decide to listen to the people who will need their help in establishing belief back into the supporter base, then there will be no hope in improvement. Perhaps we need to look at the possibility of a team approach to the on-field management such as Clough/Taylor at Derby back in the day. The first thing we need to do is for the leaders at the top to get their collective heads out of the sand, or an even smellier place, to pop up and smell the roses and forget all the gobble-de-gook that doesn't fool any of us for one minute. Honesty and full support will get the job done Steve so now it's over to you again to find a way out of your mess again.:steam:

There are lots of rumours, best to wait until an official manager/ head coach is announced. If it is Eustace he would probably be my choice.

Why did BCFC need to sell players?

one news feed says not on the short list ... bookies bigging him up to attract money?
I think the onus will be on someone who will get a rolling contract! ? Might not be in the betting? Someone like the Carlisle manager!!!!!!!!

I can’t see Warnock managing us whilst the Lansdowns own the club.
He’d tell them what’s what - and they don’t like that.

Way too inexperienced for me to be a candidate. We will go back to the usual short cut system by hiring someone not up for the job and then expect miracles to happen but a new manager bounce is not what we need for the long term. When you combine what has happened both on and off the pitch over the last 2 weeks it has shaken any remaining confidence left in me for Bristol City doing anything right, particularly in regard to a new manager hiring. The Lansdown's have a bad history when it comes down to public relations correctness and so we will be treated like the usual mushrooms by being kept in the dark and being fed regular doses of brown messy stuff to feed our over exotic wishes. The only measure by which we can judge our newly formed manager is by the wins we get in their first 8-10 matches and if it's better than Nigel's record then so be it in my books.

Anyone saying too inexperienced, I suggest you read about Will Still at Reims. They are paying a €22k fine every game as he don’t have his full coaching badges and learnt his trade playing football manager. You might say but it’s Reims but they have beaten PSG once or twice already.
Don’t write anyone off till they’ve been given a chance.
