Sevilla are taking 19 players to Barcelona for the second leg of the Super Cup. Sergio Escudero is out injured from the first leg but Rami who has muscle aches will have a fitness test this afternoon. The players travelling are: Sergio Rico, Jose Antonio Caro, David Carmona, Diego Gonzalez, Gabriel Mercado, Mariano, Alex Muñoz, Iborra, Kiyotake, Nzonzi, Kranevitter, Correa Franco Vázquez, Ganso, Vitolo, Sarabia, Konoplyanka, Ben Yedder and Vietto. Hey Fulhaman - hadn't realised till now that you'd sold Kevin Gameiro to Atletico Madrid for £27m. Mega bucks but a mega loss!
Oh yes, he went some time ago. Ah! my beating heart screams Sevilla taking it on wings forever and why i come to see you today (or thereabouts in a rough english translation). Catchy, eh? I think I prefer You'll never walk alone, to be honest.
What happens if you don't take your chances? Otherwise, guess least said quickest mended on last night's result.
Better news. On the transfer front Sevilla are being strongly linked with Joe Hart. please log in to view this image The fee shouldn't be an issue but can they afford his wages?
I should think so, to be honest. He may have to trim his expectations slightly but he'll be getting Champions League football until Christmas at the very least, a lovely lifestyle, cheaper standard of living and the water is so soft he will hardly have to use any Head & Shoulders to keep his bonce flake free, so savings there as well. He might have to stock up on sun screen, mind. He's a bit fair for the climate.
Excellent piece, as ever, by Sid Lowe. Imagine if we fined teams for low attendances. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/aug/19/la-liga-season-preview-sid-lowe
I blame Sky! Seriously though, the bit on Sevilla was interesting: "Gameiro left Sevilla; their top scorer, gone. Grzegorz Krychowiak left too. And Ever Banega. And their captain, Coke. Their manager went to Paris Saint-Germain. Their sporting director was about to go, too. Instead he was forced to stay and rebuild yet another team. Because he has done so before, there’s a certain optimism: there may be no other club where their three most important players leave and supporters still think things are going to be OK. Few rebuilding jobs have been as complete as this though; this time Sevilla look totally different under César Sampaoli, the man who wants to face Real and Barcelona as equals, pressing high, competing for the ball, chasing all over the pitch and losing to both over the last week; two Super Cups, two defeats. It may yet work, it may not; it’s going to be fun finding out." Not because of this thread but because of our own 'stats' v 'slav' debate and the one man model being used by Sevilla.
Yes, That's why I am a lot more relaxed about it than some others because I know it can and does work, however, Monche is a football man, through and through and I am not sure that can be said about those at Fulham, even Rigg, who has been around the game for some years. I think another big difference for me is that in American sport those responsible for any failure of stats driven players would pay the price with their jobs. In the UK it would be the Manager or Head Coach rather than those in the background.
Tough draw for the guys in Group H please log in to view this image Might have to repeat history and come third then go on and win the Europa Cup ... again!
Signing of PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu all but done and dusted - he's finishing his medical as we speak. please log in to view this image Not a bad coup - despite him being an Andy Longergan look alike - and pinched from under the noses of Hull and Everton.
The guys struggled a bit last night - only one shot on target - but held out for 0-0 draw away to Villarreal last night. Meanwhile it looks like defender Vincent Ibbora is off to Sunderland for £7m
