or unfinished courses allowing some of the bacteria to survive, allowing for a resistant strain to emerge.

Most of the adaption to anti-biotics comes from not killing the infections entirely.
Though I 100% agree, viruses and bacteria evolve and adapt.

Seen a documentary on Virus evolution and it is truly amazing, it is a war between immune systems and viruses. The Viruses almost seem to know wtf they were doing :D

Exactly. Resistance is a direct result of evolution. It just happens much more quickly with micro=organisms..

Just seen a flock of siskins when walking the dog. Really uplifting. I assume they're migrating. Is this the right thread?

I have my own issues with Hawking, namely some really poor theoretical work that actually defied the laws of physics.
Very smart man, understatement, but we must include their body of work in its entirety

Susskind, who was right over the black hole wars, nevertheless credits Hawking with asking all the right questions, and opening up many many doors in the subject. And hawking radiation WAS a leap in understanding the quantum flux too.

If memory serves me correctly, is this argument over whether information is lost or not? if yes Kip Thorne claimed to have won the bet.

imo both got ahead of themselves.

Recently I happened upon a show, called how the Universe Works. I seen this post from the narrator Mike Rowe.

“How the Universe Works” is a terrific documentary series that I’ve had the pleasure of narrating for the last six seasons. I thought this week’s premiere was especially good. It was called, “Are Black Holes Real?” If you didn’t see it, spoiler alert….no one knows!!!

It’s true. The existence of Black Holes has never been proven. Some cosmologists are now convinced they don’t exist at all, and the race to prove their actuality has become pretty intense. Why? Because so much of what we think we know about the cosmos depends upon them. In other words, the most popular explanations as to how the universe actually works, are based upon the existence of a thing that no one has been able to prove."

"on an episode carefully vetted by the best minds in physics"

They use scientists to vet their shows first. This is the first kind of mainstream show vetted by physicists that has actually addressed this fact, and put it out there, and noted the drive to prove them because so much unproven theory rests upon black holes, everything we think we know does, so I can understand the unwillingness to question them by career cosmologists.

As for Dr Hawking. In this theory of everything he claimed, based on his mathematics, that the entire visible universe was initially contained within a singularity just after the big bang that was 0 volume, infinitely dense (violation of special relativity) and infinitely hot (violation of law of thermodynamics and kinetic energy).

That's just batshit crazy, as in Sisu crazy :bandit:
