I agree, but the issue for many years has been the WRU itself.The Irish system took years to develop. We have limited resources and a very very small
Pool of players to pick from. Rugby is only the 4th sport here. Schools feed into the provinces who feed into the national team. Central contracts for a limited number of players who are well protected.
There is no reason the Welsh system shouldn’t be as developed.
The difference on the technical, ball handling skills, strength & conditioning, as well as bringing players through, can be largely explained by the respective ‘pathways’ of both countries.
The IRU supports and finances the Professional teams, in Wales the WRU has - not just in my opinion but also in my direct experience of having literally been sitting in the room with them during discussions on changing and improving the situation - been nowhere near as supportive and helpful of the Professional teams i.e. the Regions.
