We really needed a win , but like hoops can't buy one at the moment. Small shoots of promise with some of the attacking play. But yet again small mistakes, and stupid pens our achilles heel. Some of the tackling or serious lack of it was the worst I can remember from any team for a long long time. Yet again we resort to booting the ball away at far too many occasions and for no profit at all, I just can't help to feel that Farrell somehow holds up back, but have thought that for a long time. Alot of work for Borthwick to attend to but if he can't alter the silly mistakes and our discipline , it won't matter a jot. We'll done to the Sweaties, they deserved it on the day and have some excellent wingers and a clear style of play.

CB needs time. He’ll only have had a handful of sessions with the players. He has 8-9 months to get them right. England on the better side of the WC draw. Early days
But how many actual games until it starts ? He should've had the nuts to start building the team around Smith and not Farrell ! Can't see us changing enough in time for this World Cup with Farrell so pivotal.

Very entertaining Calcutta Cup match, which I would describe in footballing terms as a good game between two of the better sides in the EFL Championship.
My observations were that England under Borthwick looked better in attack, running some excellent lines. But, England were poor at the breakdown and even worse in defence, missing tackle after tackle.
I thought there looked a forward pass in the build
up to Scotland's last try.
Smith is an excellent player, but again, looks a bit of a show pony at times.
Finally, I can never understand this tactic, which England have employed for years, of constantly kicking possession back to the opposition.
England have zero chance of getting anywhere in the WC.
I thought the last pass from their number 8 to the tryscorer was defo forward, but it didn't even get looked at !

a couple of training sessions can’t change a team. WG and CB won’t be massively disappointed by today. They need time. I’d be more worried if I was welsh as they seemed to have missed a generation of players and are relying on a set of players with massive mileage on board. England will be flying by the WC. Loads of time to get it right

So many forward passes in Union get ignored. Would definitely have been brought back in League.
But in such a pivotal moment in such a big game surely it should've been checked ? Maybe it was, but it didn't appear that way. I'm surprised more England players didn't ask the ref to have a look at it.

It seems to me to be a different culture whereby forward passes are ignored more in Union than they would be in League.

The Irish system took years to develop. We have limited resources and a very very small
Pool of players to pick from. Rugby is only the 4th sport here. Schools feed into the provinces who feed into the national team. Central contracts for a limited number of players who are well protected.
There is no reason the Welsh system shouldn’t be as developed.
