That’s sad. Joined Liverpool just as I was getting into football and really old enough to understand what was going on beyond being taken to QPR. Extremely successful guy and a bit of a 90s football icon.

I imagine David Ginola might have had something to say about how universally well respected Gerard Houllier was. Houllier called Ginola a 'murderer' after his misplaced cross led to a Bulgarian goal that meant France failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.

John Edrich, Surrey and England opener in the 60s and early 70s has passed away RIP.

Back when I was at school many cricketers were also PE teachers, at my school Edrich's opening partner at Surrey, Mike Edwards, worked during the close season and often spoke of just how good a batsman he was. We also had Roger Harman who was a spin bowler and Alan Pinkney, a Palace footballer amongst the PE staff...

Remember him well opening the Surrey batting with Stewart at the Oval. He was very hard to dislodge. Tough bloke. RIP John Edrich.
