    His work in the 80s in particular was brilliant, a great musician and writer, a truly sad day for music...

    Another iconic musician that I grew up with, and saw in concert, passes away, so so sad.

    So much of his music rewrote the rulebook.

    I still play Purple rain regularly....really tragic

    Such a talented musician.

    One of the best songwriters of all time. Truly shocking news, 57 no age at all. Live performances second to none, fantastic guitarist, fantastic singer. A huge loss to music.

    It certainly did in Newfoundland yesterday.....

    "People in parts of Newfoundland experienced a bit of déjà vu Wednesday as a slow-grinding storm swept over parts of the island, closing schools, courts and halting numerous public services, and dumping 37 centimetres on the ground at the St. John's airport by 4:30 p.m."

    Rather worryingly I went on to play 'Cum on feel the Noize' after 'When doves cry' proved to be a bit too difficult (The intro and solo. The basic chords are ok.) Poor Noddy, I'm so sorry.

    Funnily enough when I was cooking dinner I was thinking I should have done a Bieber song. Glad to say I can't even name one let alone play one.

    Ben Miller was on radio 5 last week and, tangentially, he talked about his father-in-law - one Alan Parker. 'Oh yes', he said, 'he and Jimmy Page were the top session guitarists in London in the late sixties', and he mentioned all kinds of famous tracks that he had played on. I was dubious, but today they had Mr Parker himself on, and he had some wonderful stories - the best being his having played the opening acoustic guitar riff on Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower. Not Jimi at all.

    Worth a listen if you can find it.
