Eric Bristow tweeted just before he died ... This is his last photo of him, taken on the same afternoon around about 3pm please log in to view this image
Darts first TV superstar. Brash, arrogant, divisive but a great player. Helped turn darts from a pub game to the worldwide money-spinner you now see regularly on the box. His biggest achievement was financing the early career of Phil Taylor who dominated the game for two decades. Bristow's win at all costs mentality rubbed off on Taylor and the rest is history....
Bristow was my in my opinion the leader of a group that included Jockey Wilson and Bobby George that became the first stars of darts, making it far more of a spectator sport, gave it greater TV appeal and pizzazz. RIP Crafty Cockney.
It was a reference to another darts legend, commentator Sid Waddell, who said ''There's only one word for that ; magic darts! ''
I was at the funeral of an old friend yesterday and this was played. So beautiful, but heartbreaking......... RIP Paul.
