Harding revealed in August 2020 that she had been diagnosed with the disease, which had spread to other parts of her body.

Jean-Pierre Adams: Former France international dies after 39 years in coma

Jean-Pierre Adams won 22 caps for France
Former France footballer Jean-Pierre Adams, who had been in a coma for 39 years, has died at the age of 73.

Adams was admitted to hospital for knee surgery in March 1982 but never regained consciousness after an error with his supply of anaesthetic.

Born in Senegal, the defender made more than 140 appearances for Nice and also played for Paris St-Germain.

In a statement, PSG said Adams' "joie de vivre, charisma and experience commanded respect".

Nice said the club would pay tribute to Adams - who won 22 caps for France between 1972-1976 - before their next home game against Monaco on 19 September.

Adams also made 84 appearances for Nimes, who said they were sending their "most sincere condolences to his loved ones and his family".

On the day of Adams' operation to repair a damaged tendon in his knee - suffered while on a coaching training camp - many staff at the hospital in Lyon were on strike.

His operation still went ahead, with the anaesthetist looking after eight patients, including Adams, at the same time. Adams was supervised by a trainee, who later said: "I was not up to the task I was entrusted with."

Between the anaesthetist and trainee, numerous errors were made, causing Adams to suffer a cardiac arrest and brain damage.

It wasn't until the mid-1990s that the anaesthetist and trainee were punished - a one-month suspended sentence and a 750 euro fine.

Adams was discharged from hospital after 15 months and had been cared for at home in Nimes by his wife, Bernadette, ever since.

    'Remarkable devotion'
    Piers Edwards, BBC Sport Africa

Bernadette Adams is a remarkable woman, a gentle but steely soul who never once considered turning off her husband's life support machine despite his vegetative state.

For four decades, she has spent nearly every day caring for Jean-Pierre, changing his clothes, preparing his food, never forgetting to give him presents and often talking to him too.

The response was of course silence from a man once described as "larger than life" (and whose skills were highly rated by German football legend Franz Beckenbauer) yet nurses reported slight mood changes on the rare occasions Bernadette went away for a night or two.

I visited the Adams home in southern France in 2016 whereupon Bernadette explained the hospital had never apologised for an accident which she could not help thinking about every day.

The actor Tony Selby has died aged 83. He was one of those people I thought stayed forever young and seemed to pop up in every other British show. RIP.

That's such a tragic tale. It seems quite inexplicable. If it were a fictional film you would come out shaking your head saying that it's too far fetched.

American actor Michael K Williams, best known for starring in HBO drama The Wire, has been found dead in his New York apartment. He was 54.

US media quote law enforcement sources as saying he died from a suspected drug overdose. This has not been officially confirmed.

Williams - who was nominated for three Emmy Awards - had openly discussed his struggles with drugs over the years.

In The Wire, he played Omar Little, a streetwise robber of drug gangs.

He was also known for playing Albert "Chalky" White in the Boardwalk Empire TV series.

New York Police Department spokesman John Grimpel said police went to Williams' Brooklyn apartment after receiving an emergency call at 14:00 local time on Monday (18:00 GMT).

Tributes have started to pour from fellow actors and filmmakers.

"This is heartbreaking to learn. We have lost an enormous talent in Michael K Williams," tweeted Star Trek actor George Takei.

Filmmaker James Gunn described Williams as being among the "most gentle souls I've ever met".

"Rest in Peace Michael K. Williams. Gone far too soon. A man that taught me so much. Thank you for your wisdom," said British actor Damson Idris.

I think that's another landmark in our life's of what we were doing when this occurred. I was in between night shifts and was expecting the worse to happen as I rode into work on my motor bike. I was stationed in central London and thought everything would be thrown at it. Thankfully it wasn't and it was relatively quiet.

    Yep,
I was about to fly back from Sydney with 5K stuck down my Reg Grundys and about to board the aircraft, not long after the first tower fell.
If anyone boarded the aircraft demanding our wallets, they were going to have to violate me to get it ..... ( l worked too blooody hard to give it away )

I was in New York, actually trying to get downtown to Spring Street, near the towers, for a meeting. Only to get stopped at 42nd street being told we cannot go any further because of an incident down the line. Got off the metro moaning about the inconvenience only to be met by the sight of one tower on fire. Saw it all unfold (or fold) on the big screen at Times Square.

I’m saddened by this one as he always reminded me of my late father. Not in looks, but because he was in “Get Some In” a sitcom based on guys doing their National Service in the RAF, which the Old Man did.

Uber Snr was stationed with the other future actor, David Daker of Boon fame. Daker was unpopular and known as Smelly Socks.

Selby was in just about everything when I was growing up, but most at home playing the not-so-smart ‘heavy’.

All these memories from 9/11 proves that this was the ‘JFK’ moment of our generation….most will remember where we were at the time it happened.
I was in a shop on the Uxbridge Road in Hayes buying a sword and gun for a fancy dress costume when it came over the radio

I worked across from the Twin Towers that year just across the Hudson River; at the time of the attack I was in Chicago. Many at our site saw the second plane hit the tower from outside the plant, which was horrific for everyone. I remember how difficult it was to contact family here to let them know I was OK (as our key clients were based in the Towers). The impact on US citizens was very hard, they never thought it could happen on US soil.
We spent the next few days on a road trip from Chicago involving Limos to get out of the city; hire bus to get back to New Jersey along with numerous calls with the plant to check on people, operations and the support from workers who helped ferry people home during the days.
It has been interesting to see the BBC documentaries on the involvement of the administration and what was going on through those days. I will never forget that day or the view of Ground Zero from the back of the AT&T building when the facade was still jutting out from the ground and all the images of people lost or missing all around.
