Is that even a thing? You lot down there got nothing better to do? In case you're ever in Auld Reekie, there's a lot of bars that show the rugby when the Six Nations and summer tests are on. The Rugger crowd are annoying as **** so I try to avoid trips across when that's on but they seem to like The Three Sisters down on Cowgate as well as the usual haunts on Grassmarket
Twenty thousand steps yesterday exploring Edinburgh, which is a fine town. A chunk of those were spent trying, and failing, to walk up Arthur's Seat (ooer, missus). I was disappointed to have been beaten by it, but when the path turned into very uneven and quite treacherous stepping stones, I decided to call it a day. Not a place to break one's ankle. Walked back along the Royal Mile to the Castle stopping at a few hostelries on the way. Evening meal at a very fine Thai restaurant in Castle Street... Chaophraya Edinburgh | Thai Restaurant | Thai Dining with Heart Highly recommended, not necessarily for the food, which was good without being spectacular, but more for the setting (a fourth-floor rooftop), the fantastic service, and the generally warm vibe. A real pleasure.
Good effort...there's a lot of steps and stairs in Edinburgh! There's a Chaophraya in Glasgow city centre too, gets very good write ups. My work partner has been a few times says it's great...lovely decor inside.

Not me mate, self employed contractors can't affotd sickies! Enjoyed the show last night, but it re-affirmed that I'm no Carl Barat fan. I've seen Pete in all his guises - Babyshambles, Pete Doherty, Peter Doherty, Pete Doherty and the Putra Madres, smacked-up, in rehab and clean(ish), and he's far more my thing. Show started with a piper playing Flower of Scotland which got the crowd going before they started out with a bunch of oldies. Some of the new tracks, which for me are more lyrically and musically better sounding, seemed to fall a bit flat unfortunately, and there sounded to be an issue with Petes mic, the levels needed tweeking - they didn't sort this out til the encore. An hour 45 set again, so good value for £40. As an aside, our son couldn't make it, so I re-listed the ticket on the Ticketmaster app for just under face value, sold within 5 minutes - **** Viagogo
I've mentioned this place before, but I'm working up in Aberdeen so we drove to the Rajpoot in Inverurie for tea tonight (ten miles)...absolutely top class Indian food My "Smoked Spinach Chicken Balti" Garlic Chicken Tikka Bhoona So good, and value too....£50 for two, with popadoms and drinks Back in the hotel now, and on the Innis and Gunn "Mangoes on the Run" IPAs.. might be a bit rough tomorrow!
This is a really well made documentary.... Watch Undercover: Exposing the Far Right | Stream free on Channel 4 I'm not quite sure what they actually achieved in this instance, but these are brave people doing an important job.
Turned on the wireless where the shrieking tones of Emma Barnett forced me away from Radio 4 within 3 seconds. Radio two got slightly longer, about 8 seconds. Now on 5 Live which is hilarious. I don’t know who the presenters are, but the bloke sounds not only totally ignorant of any topic he’s called upon to cover (gave the strong impression that he had never heard of Gaza until today) but also totally uninterested in them, which is actually quite funny. Of course he livens up discussing Manchester United. On the plus side neither of the presenters talk over, or in Barnett’s case, shout at, interviewees. ****ing hell, Nicky Campbell has just been introduced as ‘the voice of the U.K.’, which would indicate that we are in much worse trouble than even I suspected. He is spending the first hour of his programme trailing the budget, which seems to be occupying all the media endlessly. I’m trying to convince my wife that there is nothing wrong with starting the day with total silence, and stretching that out until it’s time for a drink.
Try James O'Brien. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. The quality of the callers he gets surpasses that of any other talk radio show I've heard.
I have heard him. I’m not interested in call in shows full stop, the psyche of those who are compelled to share their opinions on broadcast media is beyond me, even if I agree with their opinions. And O’Brien, even if I agree with some of his opinions, creeps me out. All I want is news and current affairs delivered in a calm, balanced way, with a clear sense of priorities eg a faded pop singer dying while stoned in Argentina is sad, but not more newsworthy than another hospital bombed in Gaza. But not so according to BBC TV News.
