Great programme on Sky Arts ‘Toots and the Maytals: From The Root’, charting the beginnings, early life and career of ‘Toots’ Hibbert who sadly died recently. also includes some rare footage of the band who helped shape the music genre called ‘Ska’. A must watch for all lovers of the sound
Such is my desperation to see more live music that I have just booked a family outing to see The Specials at their hometown gig at the Ricoh in Coventry. All standing, thank ****. Only problem is that it doesn’t happen until 11 September next year. So now I am pondering building a time machine. Any tips?
Have you seen them before since they’ll reformed ? I have a couple of times and sad to admit that I was a tad disappointed the last time. They weren’t ‘bad’ and played all the hits, along with some new stuff but I really think they missed the pure energy of Neville Staple. You’ll have a good time I’m sure
can I borrow it when you have finished with it we bought tickets in dec 2019 to see simple minds in dec 2020 now they wont be coming till dec 2021 at least the warm up act omd will still be coming
You're desperate? Jeez - I've got tickets for 14 gigs between Feb and Jun next year, and can't ****ing wait!!! Any chance of a loaner of your time machine? Stewie Griffin is the man to go to...
Not normally a viewer of ITV, but I've been at home this week and me and the missus started watching the docu-drama Des about serial killer Dennis Nilsen. Final episode tonight, it was very good. Some superb acting throughout, and David Tennant was phenomenal in the lead role. No idea how true to real events the program was but really enjoyed it.
I watched it too, very good and Tennant was superb. I read Masters's book many years ago, that was fascinating too.
Ive recorded it to watch the whole lot at once....never realised it was David Tennant from the adverts I saw....wow. I remember as a lad it coming in the news that they had found human remains after being called to blocked drains that smelt awful. It was pretty shocking at the time and still is
Not seen them though my daughter has. I last saw them in about 1979, can’t remember the exact circumstances. Or even the city. Just hoping for the opportunity to jump around like a fool for a bit. Apparently this is stunningly accurate and some of Tenants dialogue is lifted directly from interview records. His performance is said to be uncanny. I’ve just seen the first episode, very good indeed.
I've seen them a couple of times, 8-10 years ago. Remembering them being very good, although I was rather pissed both times....plenty of jumping around like a fool though so you'll fit right in Stan!
Yeah that would of been when they first reformed I reckon Steels, 2009 was when they toured again. All the old band except Jerry Dammers and was absolutely buzzing. As I say, when I saw them last year they weren’t ‘bad’ as such,...just getting old and seemed to of lost a bit of enthusiasm.....I guess it happens to us all
Us on BBC1 right now. Truly awful. It thinks it's clever and slightly edgy, but it's really not. It's obvious and kind of twee. Just annoying. I really like Tom Hollander, but he's better than this.
100% spot on. I’ve seen the last half an hour, what a load of crap. The Hollander character is so neurotic and irritating that no one would have shacked up with him in the first place. The dialogue is completely false, the wife character is a blank and the son a stereotype.
Oh dear, I was recording this ‘ is I thought it looked quite interesting. Don’t know if I should bother now
I think you should watch the first episode at least Stainesy, if only to see if you agree with me and Stan.
It got a very good review in the Times today, which rather baffled me. As Strolls say, take a look, it won’t take you long to form an impression.
I definitely will watch them or at least start to watch.....how many episodes is it ? I will probably wait till all are recorded then try to binge watch....
Just started watching and gripped after 20 minutes. Very disturbing but brilliant acting from Tennent
