Shola Ameobi is available again after serving a one match suspension while Steven Taylor may return to the squad having missed the last nine Premier League games.
With the postponement of his scheduled talks with the club, Fabricio Coloccini should be available to lead the side. If not, the armband looks likely to go to Yohan Cabaye, although Shola Ameobi has previously worn it.
