RIP Gordon Banks. Another W/C winner gone. Remembered for the greatest save ever. Pele once said that every time he watches it he thinks this time the ball will go in.
Lovely story about Gordon Banks, after he made “that save” from Pelé in 1970. Bobby Moore quickly turned to him and said “You are getting old Banksie, you used to hold onto those” RIP Hero
took my dear old mum and my brother-in-law RIP Gordon, career could have gone on far longer without the accident.
RIP Peter Tork. The only real musician in The Monkees. They may have been a sh1t group, but they had the top song-writers providing their material.
A bit late but RIP Jacques Loussier. Slated by some for mixing jazz with classical but I liked it, and I'm sure Bach would have approved.
RIP Tommy Smith, for those too young to remember him … he was the Liverpool version of Keith Peacock... the water carrier of the Liverpool midfield, he would do the dirty work so others could bask in the glory.
RIP Billy McNeill. Another victim of dementia very likely to be caused by heading the old leather ball. Had the nickname Caesar, which was because of his leadership qualities, but it started when someone compared him to the actor Cesar Romero. The picture of him holding the European Cup aloft in Lisbon is imprinted in my mind.
