RIP Gordon Banks. Another W/C winner gone. Remembered for the greatest save ever. Pele once said that every time he watches it he thinks this time the ball will go in.

Lovely story about Gordon Banks, after he made “that save” from Pelé in 1970.

Bobby Moore quickly turned to him and said

“You are getting old Banksie, you used to hold onto those”

RIP Billy McNeill. Another victim of dementia very likely to be caused by heading the old leather ball. Had the nickname Caesar, which was because of his leadership qualities, but it started when someone compared him to the actor Cesar Romero. The picture of him holding the European Cup aloft in Lisbon is imprinted in my mind.
