Nor am I mate. In fact I am a strong supporter of the Royals and in particular Her Majesty and as a few have said on here; if and when she does pass, it will be a very sad day.
Me too. I am not of the belief that, as individuals, they are beyond reproach; they are only human. But, as an institution, I think that constitutional monarchy is the most sensible, and most civilised method of selecting a ceremonial head of state.

Objectively, I believe the Queen has done a magnificent job during her reign, acting as a figurehead for the country, developing and modernising the role during quickly changing times while retaining the traditions, and acting as one of the key elements in British diplomacy. A lot of the things she has been asked to do forced her, as a naturally reserved and shy person, out of her comfort zone but she always appears to have acted with dignity and to have been very personable. Despite what some people would say, the role is a demanding one in many ways and to still be doing it after 70 years is amazing. I hope her reign continues for as long as possible.

well said mate all ex servicemen will be saddened by the news
Agreed mate as well as many others.

I was serving in Kosovo at the time of The Queens Mothers passing. We were in the Mess at the time of the news (only having our two cans:emoticon-0102-bigsm) and the Adjutant virtually stormed in through the door and without notice, and quoting Queens Regulations, shut the bar and sent us on our way to our beds. The Commanding Officer, an odious little prick, upon hearing what had happened, took it upon himself to re-open the bar, called all Mess Members back and we raised a toast, not only to her passing but her life. Bloke went up in my estimations that day as it was a great touch. Apologies for the ramble.

I am not a great fan of the Saxe-Coburg Gotha's!

However it would be mean and petty not to recognise the service that Elizabeth has given to this country and what she has symbolised... I doubt we will see her like again.

I fear Charles is but a pale imitation of his mother. His sister imho would be a better choice.

Reactions: clockstander
Feels wrong to be watching the news with the camera just focused on the gates at Balmoral and listening to people talking about succession.

Actually feel quite gutted and sad that she is likely soon to pass, as others have said she served our country with dignity.
