Class that mate as is the photo of her giggling when Phillip surprised her! I've just had a laugh and a smile at both of those!
Exactly, nothing more, nothing less. Just a giggle between 2 people who loved each other. Great post Chunk.
As an ex serviceman, who met her and Charles a few times,Im actually really gutted. She was such a really superb figurehead and represented everything good about GB and its people. More than any politician or temporary head of state ever could. RIP Our Gracious Queen
Like wise not a Royalist but this hit me hard today shed a few tears. Maybe its an age thing. She seems to have hit a note with people from all persuasions Royalist Republican Left Right Black White whatever. I think the answer is old fashioned integrity. In short supply these days. RIP Bonny Lass (as its a football forum) No regrets. You left everything on the pitch.
A golden generation Smug. Hopefully they will bump into my Dad. And when its our time we can all have a bevvy together
I think it could easily be interpreted as suggesting that previous reasons for kneeling were not worth respecting but "Now" we'll kneel for someone we respect. I'm not looking to debate it and certainly don't want to derail the thread, but I think that's the viewpoint that some may see with that picture.
I just saw it as a respectful, powerful image for someone that lead our country for 70 years with integrity and dignity
Kneeling for the Queen after 70 years of selfless service is the least we could do. Kneeling for other causes I find slightly offensive, as it becomes a protest . A kneel for HRH is a mark of respect.
Of course mate, I wasn't suggesting for one second that you were making any kind of political point. I believe you posted it sincerely. I was just providing the counter point, in case you hadn't considered it, which is why the first person who responded was unsure about it.
I believe that William is from the same mould as his grandma and holds the same values. His kids seem to be cut from the same cloth so fingers crossed we're in good hands for the future.
I couldn't make a political point if I tried But I do believe 'taking a knee' would be the right gesture for the queen
That's fair enough mate. I'd say 'taking a knee' was born as a protest against inequality and racism. It's not intended as a mark of respect in my opinion. A traditional, old fashioned minute of silence is the right form of respect in my view.
Trouble is taking a knee has become this generations minutes silence. Same.as the minutes applause came about because idiots could keep quiet for a minute Add to that, I'd have happily knelt before the queen to show my respect
