Nice to see they have let a lot of the general public in for this service rather than all the high brow dignitaries.

Agreed . A speech from the heart. Obviously it is prepared but he delivered so well. I agree must of been a number of takes as he looked as though he had welled up during it. Respect to him.

King Charles did well. I remember when my Dad passed away and I had to do a reading at his funeral in church. I managed to hold it together until Id said the words, and then was in absolute bits and floods of tears for hours after. I honestly as well don't get the anti royal sentiment at times. There are two or three really valid arguments for keeping the Royal Family intact.
    1. They attract untold income through tourism, and pomp and circumstance into the UK.
    2. As a head of state we can rely on HRH transcending the *u*kwits who otherwise would have been head of state. Imagine boasting that Boris or Nicola Sturgeon or Neil Kinnock or Michael Foot were our Head of State. Really? Look at the pelters for the USA when Trump was in there.
    3. As a leader, it gives our military and others a figurehead, the Commonwealth countries a figurehead, the rest of world leaders a person to look to and bypass the knobbers in the House of Commons with the way they behave and then justify their teenage like behaviour by saying "this is just politics". Hence the comments from other world leaders which reflect not only the late Queen but also the system that is in the UK.

I dread to think of the day when we announce we are a Republic, have saved 40 million in costs, have lost 400 million of tourism revenue and have the son of Boris as our new Head of State.

F*** that for a game of soldiers

But it doesn't matter. For the constitution as it is to survive he must be entirely apolitical. Whether what he says is popular with some people or not, he must stand above the fray or he becomes immersed in it, which will be untenable.

I agree I did the eulogy for at mothers funeral only a few weeks ago and managed to get through it all until the last few words when I suddenly thought of a moment from the past and that was it. A very difficult thing to do when your grieving.

Indeed. And in fact, he has stated repeatedly that he knows that he will have to give all of that up as Sovereign. What it does show is that, despite what some people want to tell us, he's not out of touch or completely unable to relate to the public.

I do like the sound of the pipes, there are usually one or two busking on the streets of Edinburgh when we visit at Christmas time, in the full kilt and stuff. We always stop and listen, excellent imo.
