No fan of Tories or Thatcher - but that Junta were real Fascists who had murdered 10000+ of their own people by throwing them out of aeroplanes. They wouldnt have thought anything about throwing out a few hundred foreign "invaders" while they were at it - had the British not sent troops in. Callaghan, Wilson, Gaitskill and Blair would probably have done the same as Thatcher - Foot would have probably dispatched a hard-hitting leaflet campaign.

It was certainly a more legitimate intervention (these people were British regardless of what you think of the claim to the islands) compared to Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Serbia and so on.

What would you have done Os? Send an email or equivalent 30 years ago to a murderous dictator saying " My dear chap would you be awfully good enough to withdraw your troops from the Falklands?" Don't think that would have worked somehow. Galteri badly miss-calculated the response from the British Government that was incidentally backed by the Labour opposition at the time.........

Tell that to the families of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, thanks to Tony Blair. if you want a warmongering party, then labour are far more deserving of your wrath than the Tories. with the Falklands, we went to reclaim sovereign British territory that had been invaded by an occupying force. That was not the case with Afghanistan, and certainly not with Iraq.

We all have our moments, Uber. I can identify with what you said in your original post, because it's difficult to leave work behind at weekends, holidays etc especially in this age of internet, emails, mobiles, texts etc. In my experience, you either have to be so lowly placed in an organisation that no one's interested in your views, or else be head of the organisation. I worked for an international company, and it always amazed me that the only senior person who was regularly in a position to pass the time of day was the chairman. He'd delegated well, had seen all problems before and knew what the solutions were - and slept well at night.

    Re: Serbia
That was the UN, http://www.un.org/en/peacekeeping/missions/unmik/mandate.shtml. Just about as legitimate as you get to be fair.

And as for Afghan, Russia invaded and ruined it, then after the west backed the Mujahideen they turned on US and allowed terrorists to attack us from within their borders under the pretence of "Afghan Hospitality" Reasonably comfortable with this conflict also. Less comfortable sending the troops serving on the front lines P45's

There was a wealth of ways of avoiding that conflict, many tried to mediate including the US and the UN. Nether of the 2 sides were interested.

Be as that may Os, the easiest way would have been for the Argentinians not to have invaded in the first place......

Unfortunately we can not re-write history.....

Sorry about the distance gaff, they gave me the distance between Stanley and Buenos Aires. Now that I know its only about 300 miles and thats why they think it should be theirs we can now start claiming Norway and a few other countries. If Norway wants to claim Scotland they can have it!

There were more Labour MP's who opposed the Iraq war than there were from the Tories - Blair needed the Tories to push it through. Miliband was one of those who opposed it (unlike Cameron). -

Votes in favour of "all means necessary for disarming Saddam Hussein"

    Labour votes 244
    Conservative 139

Labour had 413 seats, the Tory's 166, Given the size of the majority having more members opposed wasn't hard. He didn't want to use the party whip but easily could have. When you do the sums they only need around 70 Tory votes.

The only other option was the lib dems but they only had 52 seats so options were a bit limited to be fair.

Cameron also wanted to intervene in Syria after his 'triumph' in Libya (that turned out well didn't it?), but was blocked by Miliband.

I always thought it was big business who decides when we go to war. The political party is irrelevant as they are heavily influenced by lobbyists.

It is fair to call Blair a warmonger, but utter nonsense to try and pin that label on the Labour party as a whole.

You don't half post some bollocks, Chaz.

Some data to prove me wrong instead of insults would be useful, otherwise I shall just assume you know I'm right.
