I agree. I hate twitter anyway. But besides what I think about it, the club need to put a stop to it before it gets out of hand. And before I get jumped on by all you people who didn't want Joey here, I still think he's a great signing ON the pitch, but **** me...twitter!!

See that Kelvin is having a go back in the press now, whinging about Barton boasting during games. Perfectly within his rights as is Barton. In other sports this is called sledging and is over when the game ends. It used to be the same in footy.....not everything changes for the better
Think Joey could be great for us,but why does he have to put all this **** on twitter all the time.Sooner or later he's gonna say something the F A don't like and get a ****ing stupid ban.He's playing well and to pick up a ban for this sort of thing would be ridiculous,time to stop twittering Joey and let your football do the talking mate!
The whole Twitter feud and conflict between players just adds to the soap opera that is football. It keeps us going through the week doesn't it? Whatelse would we talk about? Barton referred to acting in a pantomime in an interview over the weekend and IMO he couldn't have been more apt.
As much as the Twatter thing isn't my cup of tea (although I have joined to follow Barton and other QPR players as it is mentioned so much in the media) and it isn't very Britsh to air one's dirty linen in public, but this is TV and any publicity is good publicity. Gate receipts and shirt sales are great, but TV revenue is the be all and end all for lasting financial success.
If I was in Tony Fernandez's and Amit's shoes I wouldn't be too concerned... yet. If the media and public are talking about Joey Barton they will become increasing aware of QPR as a brand. I think that fits their strategy for breaking into Asia and beyond. Image can be addressed once public awareness has been created. No point having a good image if no one has heard of you (I'm refering to new markets obviously). As long as Barton doesn't say anything that damages the QPR brand long term, I'm not too concerned with his personal image. He owns his image and QPR can't do too much about it anyway.

He's more controlled but he obviously wants to respond and, to a degree, has to.
I'd prefer regular, occasionally controversial words, along with his football doing the talking than letting the very apparent red mists he sees build up into something much bigger and then boiling over.

Do the FA have rules that define precisely what players can and can't say on twitter?
If they do, I'm sure the club would have stuck a clause in his contract restricting his tweets in someway. It'd be a bit odd though because players say loads of stuff in the papers and always have done. Journalists then make sure it sounds even worse.
Other than specific rules, the only sanction would be via the disrepute thing surely... but that's been around for decades and if anything, Joey B's improving his act.
All the forces around the game (clubs, media, advertisers etc.) are dependent upon the additional public interest generated by people like Barton, I reckon he'd need to really go overboard before he'd get seriously sanctioned. Twitter's just another of many means of expression and its unsurprising to see characters like Joey exploiting it... We certainly get our money's worth out of JB as a source of continuous entertainment don't we?

Can't see why the FA/EPL should have any restrictions on what is written on Twatter or anywhere else. We have the law of libel and the various incitement to racial/ religious hatred laws to deal with anything that causes real problems. These jumped up little Hitlers don't seem to realise that as long as Blatter is the top man 'bringing the game into disrepute' is a redundant concept. In fact philosophical Joey is just the kind of stubborn customer to take them to court if they try to restrict his freedom of speech.
So that constitutes a volley of abuse?Doesn't seem to be in the same league or planet even as the "tackle" that chopped him from behind and could have caused serious injury, which was conveniently ignored by the referee and most commentators.

Karl Henry believes Wolves have to rediscover how to play "ugly" as he looks to put his weekend spat with Joey Barton behind him in tonight's Carling Cup clash with Millwall at Molineux.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy dismissed QPR midfielder Barton's claims that Henry "tries to hurt people" after the weekend clash between the sides at Molineux which the visitors won 3-0.
Now his former skipper Henry is looking for below-par Wolves to return to the traits that helped them gain promotion from the Championship and stay in the top flight for the past two seasons.
Henry said: "We want to play football and it is something we've added to our game.
"We've got better players in the team than we had last season. But we've still got to know our identity and what we are about.
"From time to time it is going to be an ugly game and you've got to earn the right to play. We didn't do that against QPR.
"We've not lost our identity but maybe just forget what has got us here in the first place, why we have stayed in the league for two years.
"We are not going to go through this season playing like Brazil every week and staying in the Premier League that way.
"It is going to be a hard slog. We've got to know what we are about and there are times when we've got to make it ugly - and we didn't do that against QPR."
McCarthy is refusing to be drawn into a war or words with Barton who claimed "I don't know what Mick has been smoking" after reports that Wolves had rejected the chance to sign him.
The Wolves boss said: "I have my opinions but generally I keep them to myself.
"Opinions are like backsides. We've all got them but it is not always wise to air them in public. Maybe we could all take a note of that.
"I haven't read Barton's comments and I'm not interested. You will not get me to start dignifying any of them with a response.
"But I will say Karl is one of the best pros I've ever worked with in terms of his attitude and conscientiousness to his profession.
"He has earned himself the right to play in the Premier League by his guts and determination and made himself a better player.
"I've got nothing but admiration for him and never, ever has he gone out to hurt anyone."
