So yesterday could barely have gone any better for us, whilst today could barely have gone any worse. And understandably it has left the impression of us or Cardiff.

Now if that impression is indeed correct, then overall it has been a good 24 hours for us. Because who cares what the others do, it's all about Cardiff dropping points. Keep them within three points of us going into the last day, and a final day escape is on.

For some reason this feels worse than last year. An escape from relegation again feels less likely. This despite thinking Ralph is the best thing to happen to us in years. 40 points if that's Raplh's target is a massive ask.

I'm sorry but it's not a massive ask to finish above Cardiff. I'd much rather be in our shoes than theirs right now.

This time last season was much worse IMO because of this...

The reason that i'm so much more hopeful of survival this season than last is the last 11 PL games (since Ralph joined) reads W 4, D 3, L 4, PTS 15
The corresponding period under Pellegrino was W 1, D 6, L 4, PTS 9
As you can see it was the same amount of games lost but look at the points total and that is all down to the outlook of the Manager, we will lose games but we are more likely to win them too and 3pts in a game are huge at this time of the season, draws just suck the life out of you.

Before Pellegrino got sacked we were deeply in the **** with a demoralised squad that had forgotten how to win.

No way will Cardiff and Brighton both get to 40 points IMO.

I think it will take a small miracle for Cardiff to get to 40 points. If they lose their matches at home to Chelsea and Liverpool, and away to Utd and City, that would leave them needing 15 points from their other seven matches. That's five wins and two defeats, or four wins, three draws and no defeats. Granted, matches against Everton, Wolves, West Ham, Burnley, Fulham, Palace and Brighton are all individually winnable. But collectively asking Cardiff to get 15 points is very tough.

However, I could certainly see Brighton getting to 40 points. Leicester, Huddersfield, Palace, Saints, Bmouth, Wolves, Newcastle and Cardiff. Getting 13 points from those 8 is certainly more achievable than Cardiff getting 15 points from their 7.

But hey, we only need to finish 17th.

Similar could be said about us, unfortunately. We have four remaining matches against top six opposition, and if we also assume that we won't take points from them, we need 16 points from the other eight.

Luckily, while I'm uncertain whether we can get 40, I don't think that's going to be necessary, either. We can't rely on the line being unusually low, either, but we're probably in a race to 38 or thereabouts.

I don't know about that. They've just been on a heck of a run and there's no guarantee they wont keep a bit of that momentum going.

But will we? We're on 24 points right now. 24. Safety feels like it got a lot further away this weekend. If we don't get a few points from Arsenal and Fulham its going to take something special to get us back on track.

Oooh the twists! The turns! The relegation roller-coaster is picking up speed now. Can you handle it one more time ladies and gentlemen?!!

We're gonna survive by +1 goal difference this time around, and we'll all age five years in the process. :emoticon-0130-devil

This feels worse because of the hope. Last year we had none and achieved a miracle...so we all entered this season thinking that Hughes would stabilise us. Then when that failed we get in a better manager and got some good results, so our heads appear over the parapet. As Ralph said there are no guarantees, but it seems even more annoying as I think we have the right manager but keep losing points in a silly manner. Trying to look on the bright side...everything would look so different if we had held on even for a draw against Cardiff....and that is just one match (though following on from the pattern v Burnley), so none of us should give up....there's that hope again :)
