Mourinho mentioned about Shaw's lack of football brain. In a couple of ways I can see what he means. JWP was always jokingly saying that Shaw was slow to take instruction, and academically he was quite poor. There was also the suggestion that he was a bit of a cruiser, ie, he did enough and no more, and relied on his talent. He couldn't play for 90 minutes, that's for sure, because he was never quite fit enough.Although to be fair, Shaw's broken leg may have played a part in his career stalling. Agree entirely about Morgan though.
I think quite a few ex-Southampton players have never quite reached their full level due to running off a bit too early, or doing it at all. Of the ones from Walcott onwards, Lallana appears to be fulfilling his potential. Bale has exceeded his. Walcott has never quite been the wonderkid, and OXO stalled seasons ago. Where's Chambers.? Morgan's departure for ManU was disastrous. He couldn't quite make the next step, and Shaw is in line to do the same. The common factor is that they've all been bought for their potential and only two or maybe three [I'm excluding the non-prem players] have taken the step. Perhaps expectations are too much for them.?
I wouldn't buy these Southampton players. Far too prone to failure.
