A price tag implies he's for sale. Our answer should be a flat no....we don't need the money and he isn't suddenly going to lose all his value.
Quite. Assists is one of those stats which I care little for. Indeed, the same applies at the other end of the spectrum, where an assist is realised: to use your words, it may not be a "chance" that the assister has created. The chance may have created by the scorer himself - the assister just happened to be the one who rolled the ball two yards to that scorer beforehand. Chances created is a much better, and more telling, stat.
Well Daniel Sturridge, if the Daily Express is anything to go by. (Yes, yes, I know) It's a theory I've been putting on here all season (albeit seemingly in a group of one). We need a striker. Sturridge can't get a game. Liverpool need a defender. Liverpool love to sign from us. Virgil is world class. Aside from what Sturridge may want in terms of wages, the puzzle pieces are all there - it's just whether or not they get put together. (Although it would still have to be Sturridge plus cash for Virgil, whether as one transaction or two. There is no way that Sturridge is worth as much as Virgil. Similarly, I'm not sure that Liverpool would be willing to pay what I would want from Virgil solely in cash - it's £45m-£50m to even begin to get me interested, personally.) Interesting that the Express are mentioning a loan in January first though. Not something which I had previously considered. Usually I'm very open to loan deals, but I'm not sure in this instance. If it were to go well, his value rockets up and half the league would be desperate for him - we'd have to include some sort of permanent deal clause, for us to activate if we so wanted. So more West Ham's clause for Lanzini, than our clause for Toby. But I guess it would give our medical team the chance to really test and evaluate him.
Slight snag being that one of those puzzle pieces is broken, bent and sits on the side of the puzzle board while you wonder why it just won't fit in.
I would rather keep Virgil and buy/borrow some little known lethal striker that the Black Box throws up. Not sure about Sturridge (and it won't happen), but a loan may be the answer for us as we could take someone in the short term that we may prefer to see before we buy (especially if he doesn't quite fit our profile).
Lots of papers picking up that Pardew and Palace have the worst record of any club in the top four divisions for 2016. I mean it's almost like that happens EVERY SINGLE TIME with him.
Sturridge? The lad's one of them bleedin' enigma thingies, as my scouse friends might say. I take little notice of other team's players unless I see them at SMS and/or we have expressed some interest. I noticed him on Saturday all right. The ball he chipped up for Clyne to miss (congratulations, Nathaniel; it was easier to score) was superb. His balance and control caused me a couple of palpitations. I also noted how Fraser and Virgil were especially warm in their post match greetings after the game, I did wonder whether one or both may have been telling him what a lovely man Mr Puel is. Ultimately I have too many memories of the little sod scoring against us to dismiss him as an option. I could even forgive him that pretentious celebration if he was doing that in front of us after completing a hat trick against Liverpool! However, I am tired of hearing from Red fans just how "immense" Virgil was. "He's ours, come January" I was told in the pub on Sunday. Luckily I was able to draw on my erudite wit and urbane charm. "**** off" I said.
Clyne and Mane failed to score on Saturday. I wonder if our secret plan is to seed all other clubs with ex-Saints who can never bring themselves to score against us.
Great idea. Been so successful in the past. Beattie, Dyer, Walcott, Chamberlain, Bale .... Personally I think that Les implants them with something these days. The absolute proof was that Lallana didn't score on Saturday. Now before some pedant points out that he wasn't playing, let's just make it clear that this proves Fran's theory (IOW logic there).
This Daniel speculation is very unnerving. This could be the most dangerous transfer we ever get involved in. Have we really become Liverpools bitch, they call the shots, we say 'how high?' Holy ****, I said last summer we folded too early regarding Mane, now we seem to want to give them a direct line.......and to top it all some think this is a good idea. If we get Daniel they get what ever they want seemingly forever. I'd prefer the fax machine to be pushed tighter to the shredder. Worrying times.
The idea of taking Sturridge? Too right. Any deals on the back of it? No way, Jose (or Virgil, Sofiane,Pierre ...)
