First half Sunderland pressed Man Utd. The second half Sunderland have letUtd do what they want. Hopefully the way we play and our fitness being much better means we can get a point or more.

Yes, but even in the first half, they didn't press as a unit, so Man U kept a lot of possession. By comparison, a Saints side would press in a far more organised fashion, and either ManU would overcome or they would cave in. The other thing is that, come the second half, ManU would find they were being pressed even harder and higher up the pitch. The forthcoming match-up is going to be really interesting.

The redcafe.net forum is having a serious meltdown, the R word has even been mentioned. Ha ha!

The bewildering thing is the amount of their fans saying that they are suffering from a lack of quality....it's the same team as last year when they won the league without breaking a sweat!

I think they really do lack in quality but the difference is that I thought that they did last year too. This is basically how they started last season, I think people forget how naff they were for the first half of last season, the only difference was they still had the Fergie backbone and Van Persie was banging them in for fun and saving them late in games over and over again. Then City and Chelsea capitulated going into the New Year and United took the title in their grasp with an iron fist and never looked back, with Fergie's swansong motivation just to get them over the line. On paper for me their squad is a way off City and Chelsea but once again those two look like they are struggling to turn quality and talent into results.

Really want someone to ship a point or points to Sunderland, because the longer this goes, the more I regret that the '1' next to their name owes to us.

It'll be like Newcastle v Derby in 2006.

PS. 1000 posts. So are we doing a new topic merging the Prem, Football League, european/international/everything else talk together?

I had an interesting day today, I was taken by my daughter and her boyfriend (both Newcastle fans) to see Cardiff v Newcastle. Cardiff were ****e. They made Newcastle look good, but not very good. Going in 2-0 up at half time with Remy getting both goals, after having had at least 70% of the possession you would think Newcastle would have had a feast in the second half, but Pards' team talk must have sent them to sleep, whereas Malky's obviously had the opposite effect on the Bluebirds in red. They came back strongly and Newcastle nearly threw it away but it finished 2-1 with Odemwingie grabbing a goal.

Very interesting to watch a game not particularly minding who won, just taking in the sights and sounds. We were sat in a home section, so my daughter and boyf had to watch themselves a bit, but the Magpie fans were very loud and very entertaining. The City stadium has really good acoustics too, and is a nice ground, a bit smaller than SMS.

My 2 pence worth - I quite like having them separate, you can have better discussions about individual games before the next comes along.

Lawro's prediction statement on Spuds v WHU:

"West Ham will pack their team with strong defensive-minded players but Spurs can pose them problems all over the place and I only see one outcome."

To be fair, I can't see anything wrong there. Only he's wrong. :)

That's the beauty of "I only see one outcome." In hindsight, he can claim that the outcome foreseen was West Ham setting up in a 4-6-0 and Total Football-ing Spurs off the pitch.
