He can, but I don't think he'd like the results. President Nancy Pelosi would not sit well with him!......and now......Trump wants to postpone the election. Can he? If he can than Adolf Hitler has returned. His Brownshirts won't complain!!!!!?

What's the process whereby Pelosi becomes president? I guess he forfeits and the Speaker takes over in a delayed election. Is that the law?He can, but I don't think he'd like the results. President Nancy Pelosi would not sit well with him!
Fascism has returned. Can't say that I'm surprised.
The President has a set term, IIRC. 20th January 2021 sees his term finish, regardless of what else happens. What's the process whereby Pelosi becomes president? I guess he forfeits and the Speaker takes over in a delayed election. Is that the law?
I see. I guess part of the legislation to delay the election would have to include a provision to extend his term. It must be possible if it were a time of war for example. But as you say, Turkeys don't vote for Xmas. The President has a set term, IIRC. 20th January 2021 sees his term finish, regardless of what else happens.
The Vice-President is in the same position, so it goes to whoever the Speaker of the House is, which is currently Pelosi.
I think she's out too by then though, so whoever takes that job would get it.
The Democrats would have to agree to a delay anyway, so it's all moot.
It would have to pass the Senate and the House, which isn't happening.
The Americans have had elections under really ****ty circumstances before.I see. I guess part of the legislation to delay the election would have to include a provision to extend his term. It must be possible if it were a time of war for example. But as you say, Turkeys don't vote for Xmas.
Not a good precedent - they gave him a 3rd term when he was way too ill to do the job. Also it was before they joined the war, so there must be leg room. The Americans have had elections under really ****ty circumstances before.
Roosevelt got re-elected during WWII, for example.
It's pretty much set in stone.
You're mixing up his 3rd and 4th terms. He was healthy enough for his third, then got re-elected again in 1944 and promptly died! Not a good precedent - they gave him a 3rd term when he was way too ill to do the job. Also it was before they joined the war, so there must be leg room.

Yeah, was just reading that (note to self, look it up before posting) I didn't know they gave him a 4th term. FFS nobody tell Trump! You're mixing up his 3rd and 4th terms. He was healthy enough for his third, then got re-elected again in 1944 and promptly died!![]()
22nd Amendment. Two terms limits are now in the Constitution.Yeah, was just reading that (note to self, look it up before posting) I didn't know they gave him a 4th term. FFS nobody tell Trump!

If there wasn't an election there would be no House so no Speaker. The succession is then to the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. If there was no Senate election the Democrats would have a majority so any Senator they chose as President Pro Tempore would become president. Elizabeth Warren? The President has a set term, IIRC. 20th January 2021 sees his term finish, regardless of what else happens.
