Credible numbers will be on the Internet somewhere.

The reason it never became the syphilis of the age was due to 20th century
medical science + education of the general population.

The true death total for Corona-chan OTOH may never accurately be
known, because China appears to be going "great leap forward" 2.0
on this (and we know from history how that played out) .

Tory MP Julian Knight has accused football of operating in a moral vacuum:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52120578

“It sticks in the throat,” said Knight.
“This exposes the crazy economics in English football and the moral vacuum at its centre.”

This is the man that literally wrote the book on tax dodging and works for the party that wrecked the NHS to save some rich people a few quid.
He can go **** himself. <ok>

These people are literally mentally afflicted with a non-introspective Tourettes.
No matter their backgrounds / wealth / political leanings, they still do it.

I could hold a gun to their heads, and tell them : say it, and I will pull the trigger.
And they would still say it.

I think he knows exactly what he's doing. It's a welcome distraction for politicians.
"Look over there! Those terrible people are dispicable. Don't look at what we've ****ed up this week."

AFAIK, there has not been mass demonstrations of "g*bshite
privilege" and moronics by the UK footballer base (God knows
they have form, and current events is a classic "the devil makes
work for idle hands" ) .

So unless one wishes to chastise them for their silence on
events + non-displays of financial altruism (a charge that would
also have to be levelled collectively at several other professional
groups) , then leave them be

Football’s economics are straight from page one of the Tory party handbook. Exploit demand to get rich quick and keep the wealth for yourself. The rich get richer; the poor get poorer. It only sticks in the throat because those getting rich don’t fit the right profile.

...sorry, you're going to need to clarify: are you talking about the UK or US?

    Exactly right.
Young athletes from largely working-class backgrounds, including minorities and them damn forins? Boo!
Ancient relics from powerful families sitting on their arses, raking it in from inherited wealth? Yay!

If this bunch of scumbags has such a problem with football's moral vacuum, then perhaps they shouldn't have given West Ham that albatross stadium?
That's different though, as their owners are party donors.

Of course, politicians don't exist in a moral vacuum. If they did, they'd do things such as underfund a national health service so they could privatise it and have their mates rake in the profits...

Or sell your stocks in retail companies and buy them in medical equipment providers after receiving privileged information.

I'm sure this will get mentioned in the 90-minute block the BBC are using to make themselves feel like they're important...

27th March 2020: Matt Hancock tests positive for Covid-19

2nd April 2020: Matt Hancock is on press conference duties, with two people flanking him for the duration, who had to squeeze past him on their way to their lecterns

So here's the question: why the **** isn't anyone reporting that the Health Secretary has ignored rules on self-isolating and, as a result, put at least two people at risk of contracting it?

No, he would need to be one of the members of the herd that falls by the wayside for it to be perfect irony.

The worst part of it is, as he was at his lectern first, the two people who were flanking him had to squeeze past him - so in the space of a few seconds not only was he refusing to self-isolate, but also not exercising any kind of social distancing

Yet somehow this isn't the story

Meanwhile, on the subject of irony...

There are stages when shedding can take place and later ones where it can't. He may have been given the all clear.
