It just shows up everything that's wrong with the alt-right, including their hypocrisy and failure to grasp facts.
Trump didn't win because he mobilised a group of bigots. Clinton lost because she failed to keep Obama's voters.
Romney would've won this election comfortably, even if he'd have just maintained his figures from 2012.

Safe spaces? Try The Donald on Reddit, the place where Trump himself did his Ask Me Anything interview with his fans.
Rule 6: No Dissenters. The ultimate safe space, where you aren't allowed to question the narrative.
No questioning the authoritarian figurehead please, as he's rather fragile.

My favourite part was something that you left out, though:

At its core was it was an ideological conflict between light and dark, truth and lies."

If you're in a battle between good and evil and you're on Trump's side, then you know you ****ed up! <laugh>
Trump objectively lies far more than virtually anyone in the public eye. It's constant.

I think the explanation for Trump's success is very simple. He was the far right candidate at a time when there is a lot of sympathy among ordinary people for right wing policies and a mistrust of liberals. Anyone who is prepared to say publicly what many think privately - Muslims are terrorists, immigrants are parasites who are taking our jobs, America will be great again if we deal with these common enemies swiftly and robustly etc - is guaranteed their vote whatever their other shortcomings.

I think it's even more simple than that: it was the Republicans' turn.
The US tends to give each party two terms, then switches to the other for two terms, for some reason.
I think that they're just generally pissed off with their current government at all times.

Given they're saying they'll start their new Twitter, with blackjack and hookers (in fact screw the blackjack!) - the exact same stance that notable moron Louise Mensch took when starting Menshn, which closed within eight months of startup - the question is how long before they start crawling back to Twitter promising they'll behave?

They're in a far better position to do it, though.
Starting one might not be the obvious solution, but adopting an already existing one? Perfectly plausible.
Jumping to Tumblr would be rather ironic, though.
