Newsnight, after an embarassingly poor by-election discussion between party representatives....
'Let's go and meet a voter' - someone who had apparently decided to leave the UK because of reasons. I turned off.
The BBC has become hopelessly dumbed down and right wing, as if it has to compete with CBeebies.
I despair.

The first time where Lab/Lib/Con have all fielded a candidate where none have finished first or second. Libs and Tories lost their deposits. Once again Starmer's hopeless judgement and political skills have been brutally exposed, Labour put more manpower into this bye election than any previous one but aimed their cannons at the wrong target. If a failing government has nothing to offer other than don't vote for the 'Bogeyman' they truly are f*cked. Labour's plan to give 16/17 year olds the vote which they assumed would strengthen their vote now could very likely backfire as the Greens will have far more appeal than a bunch of stale has beens who have no vision, strategy or appeal to a generation that has been let down badly by both Labour and Tories...
A lot of nonsense being spouted by the 'analysts' regarding the by-election result. It's really quite straightforward - having blocked Burnham from standing, Labour weren't going to win, so people voted Green to stop Reform. Zack Polanski isn't going to be forming the next government and nor is Nigel Farage.
Some people probably did but it’s not the main reason they won. It’s part protest vote, part tactical against Reform, part appealing to simpletons with nonsense about Israel and India. It was a good strategy and relatively reliable people say they campaigned very well and in good numbers but given how the area voted prior to the seat coming into being there’s no surprises.
Also, Hannah Spencer won because she was a very relatable candidate. She's a plumber and had just qualified as a plasterer.
This, from her victory speech, will resonate with a lot of working class people who used to vote Labour....
"Working hard used to get you something. It got you a house, a nice life, holidays, it got you somewhere.
"But now working hard, what does that get you? Because talk to anyone here and they will tell you, the people work hard but can't put food on the table, can't get their kids school uniforms, can't put their heating on, can't live off the pension they worked hard to save for, can't even begin to dream about ever having a holiday, ever.
"Because life has changed. Instead of working for a nice life, we're working to line the pockets of billionaires. We are being bled dry. And I don't think it's extreme or radical to think working hard should get you a nice life.
“And I don't think that if you're not able to work that you should still have a nice life. I think that absolutely everybody should get a nice life."
I’m surprised she didn’t go a bit further with the schtick and campaign dressed as a Victorian chimney sweep.
What the ****'s going on in our schools? All across London, and now into other areas, kids are being encouraged on social media to meet up with weapons to fight each other...

'School wars' have spread all over London with teenagers encouraged to 'be violent' towards each other.

I picked up my grandsons from their College in Rotherhithe today, these Red v Blue SM posts have been flying about since half-term finished and today was supposed to be the day it all kicks off. There was no trouble where I picked them up but we later heard there had been some incidents nearby in Old Kent Road. The problem is these posts go viral so quickly you don't know whether it is serious or just some cretin trying to generate a viral for some weird kudos...What the ****'s going on in our schools? Probably conspiracy theory stuff, but I wonder if this dangerous nonsense is designed to reinforce the campaign amongst the far right to paint London as some kind of lawless hell-hole.
There are plenty of strutting thickos who revel in the 'Gangsta' culture who need little excuse to start trouble, at my end of London there have been plenty of postcode dust ups and a number of murders over the years. The Croydon area has cleaned up over the past year or so but you always suspect an undercurrent capable of flaring up at short notice. The local police deserve some credit for the improvement...
Even when I was at school all those centuries ago there were end of term bundles with the nearby school, but this is on a different scale. It's also coordinated across many areas, though, which is what's so disturbing. There's some kind of plan behind this, it seems to me.
Funnily enough I was talking to my daughter about this as we went to collect the boys today. A few punches and kicks and a fair bit of running was schoolboy rivalry in our days, similar to football fan rivalry in subsequent years but today's threats come with an array of weaponry that's truly frightening...
All going off in Iran & Israel this morning. Should be an interesting few days as US & Israel launch full scale attacks and Iran now launches retaliation...
