I’m looking forward to complete role reversal on here where we point out that (as I write this) the Labour landslide has been achieved by them having 34% of the vote from a 55% turnout.. which is just under 19% of the electorate, and others saying they received a strong mandate from the people. Mind you, Sunak and his cronies got what they deserved, so **** ‘em.
I’m off to console Penny with a glass of bubbly, an old net curtain and a stick of wet celery.
I guess everyone is happy then. Even Hamas took a few seats.
They saw off Jonathan Ashworth, who was one of Labour's better ministerial prospects
All they had to do after 2019 was govern uncontroversially. Nobody could’ve predicted the Covid pandemic, but their behaviour with Partygate set in the rot. Truss straight afterwards sealed their fate. To be fair to Sunak it was a hospital pass after that.
Labour deserve their chance because the last 5 years or so has seen the worst Tory administration, more so than Major’s. Bereft of talent and ideas, quickly lost any goodwill from the public, corrupt and inept.
Let’s see how Starmergeddon holds his vast majority in line. I wish I could say I was looking forward to this new government.
Wondered when you'd get off the fenceFarage, Tice and Lowe win. Fantastic. The Right surely have to coalesce around them. Labour landslide on a low vote share, lower than Corbyn got in 2017. There's a sea change happening in UK politics. There is all around Europe.
Wondered when you'd get off the fence
Net legal immigration rising to 6-700,000 pa even under Sunak sent a huge number of voters to Reform. A left wing writer in the Times opines today that the UK is ahead of Continental Europe which is moving fast to the right. I think it's the other way around. If Starmer doesn't deal with mass immigration (and it clearly isn't his priority) the UK will follow the European example.
In the meantime, I can see a split in the Tories coming. Jenrick and Braverman are closer to Reform than they are to One Nation Tories.
Nobody wants to deal with the issue immigration other than Reform because of the smears that come with tough policies. You only have to read Kilburn’s post above to see how successful these smears have been, but aided and abetted by parties like Reform attracting the undesirable racist ****ers who have nowhere else to go.
The most racist party in the UK since Oswald Mosley in the 1930's, is the Labour Party under Corbyn.
Reform have time now to fully examine the backgrounds of all their members and future candidates, and kick out any that hold racist views. One of the biggest contributors to Reform is Zia Yusuf, a Muslim. A greater racial and religious mix is definitely desirable. Reform is about keeping net immigration numbers down. It's also about ensuring that immigrants coming to the UK can integrate well, and enjoy and contribute to British life. Mass immigration under the Tories and Labour has not been conducive to this.
None of that matters to a number of our regular contributors, Goldie.

A comprehensive victory and an opportunity for Labour to build on their 35% share of the vote. What a relief to see it actually done. A very poor turnout and a lower vote share for Starmer that Corbyn achieved in 2017 are disappointing aspects, but the result is an overwhelmingly positive one. The Tories are gone, Rees-Mogg is gone, Truss is gone, Shapps is gone, Gullis is gone, Galloway is gone.
It's a good day.
