I can't see Harry ever being welcomed back by them now, even though it's clearly another Meghan hand grenade.

The RF would be unwise not to sue, imo, if there is a proven cause of action. Allegations of racism against two named senior royals is serious, and the more it is ignored, the worse it will get. There will be an assumption that it's true and other journalists will quote it.
Right now, RF lawyers should be going over to the Dutch publishers to see if there is evidence that Scobie provided the manuscript with the two royals named in it. If so, in the absence of an apology from Scobie and an inquiry into what damages flowed from his indiscretion (the latter being the reason he hasn't apologised so far), a cause of action in defamation should be assessed. Either Charles and Kate never used the words, whether spoken or in writing, in which there is a clear claim, or if they did use the words, it can be shown it was probably innocent speculation as to what H and M's child would look like (incl ginger hair etc).
If it's provable to be innocent musings, and there is innuendo in Scobie's book that is was racist, there is likely to be a cause of action. Scobie would then have to decide whether to defend the action purely on the grounds that words used were racist, or if the RF's deny the words were used and there is no written evidence of it, Scobie will surely have to call Meghan as a witness. I think she'd refuse, because the whole reason the poisonous couple are using Scobie is to distance themselves from the allegations.
I doubt William and Harry will ever be reconciled, I agree. The wives have a pathological hate for each other for a start! I also agree H will probably split from M. He'd have to do a lot of apologising and reassuring before RF members trusted he would be discreet about his conversations with them.

I'm confident that in asking this question I'll be accused of supporting Hamas or seeking to justify their actions, neither of which would be true, but where did you get these stories from? I have no doubt that Hamas committed atrocities on October 7th, indeed the whole operation could be described as an atrocity, but I wonder how much truth there is in some of these more gruesome stories.

I don't say this to belittle the claims, but it seems to me there's a danger that such stories are exaggerated in order to elicit exactly the kind of response that you gave. A few weeks ago the story of 40 beheaded babies was common currency, but I'm not aware of that ever having been confirmed. Even Biden spoke of it before the White House had to put out a statement saying that he had seen no evidence that it was true.
Again, to be absolutely clear, I do not seek to support or justify the Hamas terrorism on October 7 in any way.
It's not just October 7th though.
The BBC reported that two young disabled hostages were murdered by Hamas because they were too difficult to keep around.
There have been many other reports of hostages being mistreated in horrific ways.
Of course, it could all be made up.......
