Russia appears to have moved to take direct control of Wagner, after months of infighting between defence officials and the private military group.

Deputy Defence Minister Nikolai Pankov said on Saturday "volunteer formations" will be asked to sign contracts directly with the ministry of defence.

The vaguely worded statement is widely believed to target the group.

But in a furious statement on Sunday, Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin said his forces would boycott the contracts.

The private military group has played a major role in the war in Ukraine, fighting on the side of Russian forces.

But Prigozhin, who is said to hold political ambitions of his own, has been embroiled in a public dispute with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and military chief Valery Gerasimov for months.

Are you suggesting there could be some kind of civil war ? If so, wouldn’t Wagner be annihilated pretty quickly due to pure numbers ?
As you say, interesting development, if we in the West would ‘pick a side’ (Wagner), or simply let them get on with it

You read my mind, in advance. Or did I read your mind. Nonetheless, we could see an unholy alliance
between Wagner and Volodymyr. Or is that Vladimir?

Not so much a civil war, but Prigozhin could be a handful if he doesn't get his way, especially as Ukraine is not the only theatre where his mercs are deployed. They've been at loggerheads for months now, about weapons and munitions supplies, about tactics and defensive measures and now they are trying to assimilate the mercs into the regular army and he ain't happy....be one to watch from afar, plays nicely into Zelenskys hand as he starts the counter-offensive
