Maybe the could respect democracy and start their own political party, then their millions of sympathisers can elect them to government and they can save the planet for all of us, including the Indians, Chinese and other developing nations. Bagsy the mud hut on the left.

Our political system makes that pointless. Another reason for an actually representative democracy.

How about chaining themselves to Parliament railings like the suffragettes? They get attention without putting the public at risk, we go about our daily business. With ****s like Oil, Insulate and Extinction, I instinctively want anything other than they're demanding, which is totally counterproductive. No government with a backbone would give into their damaging threats.
I have to agree. There are numerous ways they could protest. 1 suggested above, another could be throwing guinea pig poo at no.10, they could organise a concert for albino dwarves or superglue themselves to each other and try getting served in mcdonalds.

As I said on this thread a while back, I’ve moved towards supporting PR over the years but, if some supporters want it to get XR-sympathetic MPs into parliament, they should be prepared to also have representation in the House from further right parties. We don’t get minority party representation in the Commons partly because they are precisely that (a minority), partly because of the system, and partly because the electorate is inclined always to vote tactically, which means Red & Blue will always have the monopoly. Even under our current system if the XR-type policies were sufficiently compelling more people would vote for them.

I quite like the German system of PR, where, if memory serves, a party has to pass a certain threshold of votes before it gets any of the distribution of parliamentary seats. I think that was / is 5%. It's designed to stop loads of small parties (extremist or not) getting seats, but still leads to election results broadly mirroring the national share of vote.

My thoughts exactly…..first past the post has got it faults, absolutely. However if we want to have a system of PR, then surely we are opening ourselves for fringe parties to hold control over policy.
Yeah I’d be happy for someone further left than the current “Tory-Lite” Labour Party to hold some sway….however I would be very wary of some extreme right wing party to take more of a hand in an already, right wing Tory government, if that was formed.
With the good, surely has to come the bad.

Hmmm……didn’t know that and quite like the idea.

remember reading a little bit about the german political system and was intrigued by how their PR worked.

I quite liked it, each person has 2 votes - one for the party they want in power and 1 for their local PM so they aren't stuck with some twat who doesn't do anything for their constituent even though they prefer the politics of a different party

The main drawback to that system is that the vote for the regional candidate gives the parties a lot of power. The party chooses the list for the region, and candidates near the top of the list are certain to get in - hence the party having lots of power. No different from a safe seat in FPTP to be fair though.

Another barking mad tossbucket
Yes and no....yes she is overcome with emotion, and so she has lost all rational thinking, and cannot put a rational argument together.
Right at the end the interviewer tries to put a sensible question...... and she cools down and puts out her request...to stop all new oil and gas licences....all that is lost in her emotional showboating with "do you love your children more than fossil fuel"

Stop Oil need to put a rational, cool spokesperson in place, as they have a valid point but at the moment their methods are wrong. They need alternatives, most of all they need a plan (Nuclear fuel in my eyes)

Mind you I did this on Tuesday.... "FFS Rangers stop losing"....I have no current plan in place on how I am going to bring this about

I stick with my first opinion that she is a total and utter, barking mad tossbucket.
But I will add that she is also a selfish total and utter, barking mad tossbucket.

Selfish...not quite...wrong word.

Her/their aims are not selfish, their actions are.

I think juvenile (stupid) mindset, they have not been able to think through their actions. Good publicity throwing a custard pie at King Charles waxworks ...no one gets hurt, very little disruption ...loads publicity... But the stopping the M25 etc...not thought through at all. Upsets everyone

They must learn to keep the public on their side

Nope I would definitely say selfish……she “herself” is selfish as she has disregard for the consequences of her actions would have on many people, me most definitely included.

So yeah, I’d say the horrible **** is pretty ****ing selfish.

Coming from a good place though. I think the younger Staines would sympathise more.

Fair point and looking back I was probably a selfish **** too who didn’t give a **** about how my actions would affect normal people.
However I now have the luxury of older age, and realise that events like J18 or the various anti-capitalist demos that I attended changed absolutely nothing other than get a few nicked and cost Maccie D’s a few quid.
